Dr. Michael Byron Hodges, MD

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. THIS GUY ONLY CARES ABOUT YOUR NEXT APPOINTMENT

I setup an appointment with Dr. Hodges because I had experienced two distinct symptoms. I get to the appointment 10 minutes late. Dr. Hodges was nice enough to still squeeze me in (but later he made sure to inform me that he pulled a favor for me). At the appointment, the nurse proceeds to scold me for wanting to have more than one symptom treated. Dr. Hodges is even worse. I asked him to inform me of the result of a test he had ordered over a year ago but never communicated results on before. He totally lost it, and told me that I am being unfair to other patients. He apologize to me later, but I get the impression that he is just in it to maximize fees collected from patients. Not the type of doctor I would recommend to anyone. I am definitely dropping him as my primary care physician.

Dr. Hodges is fantastic. He takes the time to really listen to what is wrong with you and clearly explains his treatment plans. I have a history of herniating discs and with each one, Dr. Hodges saw me right away, called the hospital to get me in for a MRI the same day, scheduled an appointment with the physiatrist the next day and then followed up with a phone call at 8pm that night to see how I was feeling after my steroid injection in the back. He was thorough and made me feel like I really mattered. I can view all of my medical info online as well as book my appointments so it's quick and easy.

He noticed a lump that other doctors missed just months before by doctors affiliated with another hospital. I later found out that I had a rare cancer. My Doctor at Dana Farber Cancer Institute told me to thank him for catching the cancer in time. After 5 years I was released from Dana Farber. In addition he listens to me and provides excellent care and advice for my medical problems. He has helped me lower my BP and blood sugar. I have recommended him to all my friends and wife.

Dr. Hodges is a nice enough person who spends time with his patients. However, if you have any issue other than cholesterol or high blood pressure - it's off to a specialist. He doesn't want to get involved in any medical issue other than the ones I listed. I get the impression he's tired of his job and doesn't want to handle anything tricky. But what that means is that going to him can be a waste of time. Furthermore, the wait time to see him is RIDICULOUS! Every time I have gone to see him - I have waited up to 2 and a half hours! And that was just for him to look at my potential ear infection and tell me to come back if it didn't get better from Tylenol. Thanks... And don't think you will get a physical easy either. Those appts take up to a year to make! If you do visit him - at least try to get an early - if not his first appt of the day. I have never ever encountered a Dr. with such horrible personal scheduling issues or lack of interest in one's medical conditions.

I've seen Dr. Hodges for 6 years. I've been very impressed with his willingness to sit down in his office and talk about any concerns I have. I have an ongoing fairly common health concern about which he is incredibly knowledgeable, which has not always been the case with other doctors in the past. He went above and beyond during my pregnancy to make sure both I and my baby were healthy.

Doctor Hodges was an excellent doctor who took the trouble to know me as a person and think about my medical care. He moved to Boston and I could not follow him there for care, but I would not hesitate to have him for a doctor again if he saw patients in Waltham.
