Dr. Michael D Merkin, MD

I am a patient of Dr Merkin‘s and could not be happier with him as my neurologist, as well as his amazing staff. Nancy, Dora, and Joshua and any staff I apologize if I couldn’t remember your name as brain fog is another one of Covid long haulers I am dealing with along with a migraine headaches. They have been so helpful as has Dr Merkin addressing these horrible headaches. I have been having post Covid. Dr Merkin had offered samples of a medication to take daily, and if it helps with my headaches, all I needed to do was call the office for a prescription. The medication helped, but the next obstacle was getting my insurance company to approve the medication. Dr Merkin and his staff went above and beyond with getting the insurance company to authorize the prescription. I couldn’t be more thankful to finally have some relief from the horrendous headaches I was having. Any phone calls I made to the office for always answered in an above average timely manner. I would highly recommend Dr… Merkin and his staff. They have their patience needs always on the forefront.

Came in with a suspected pinched cervical nerve, he diagnosed a headache and ordered an MRI of my brain. Turned out I had 4 herniated cervical discs, one of which was pinching the nerves in my neck. Too bad he didn't actually pay attention to my symptoms when I spoke to him. 8 months later I needed surgery. Early PT may have helped avoid this.

Dr merkin ordered multiple tests which I have had done. Neither he nor his office staff ever called with the results-- even to say if they were negative and calls to his office to follow up have gone unreturned.

The staff was lovely. Dr. Merkin was, however, curt, condescending and sarcastic. I will not return to him. The visit bordered on patient abuse.

I would highly suggest a second option. This doctor needs his head examined!

I am a patient that has a serious neurological condition combined with anxiety over the care of that disease. The progressive disease is very painful. Dr. Merkin started me on a pain regiment but has no idea how to treat pain. My disease is one that has significant pain flare up and is very hard to manage. I am not a person who wants to be on these meds but it is the only way for me to function. So when a dose is no longer appropriate or I have had a bad month, additional break through medication is required. I have had such a hard time with the doctor and staff trying to manage these situation. In fact I have a person that helps me with the medical part of managing this disease and Dr. Merkin's staff lied to him telling him that they never prescribe these type of medication for me when we had the bottles to prove it. They would not call us back and then say they never talked to us when we call and requested augmentation to the treatment. In fact Dr. Merkin had to look up in a book to… understand the difference between Oxycodone and Hydrocodone. He thought they were the same and they in fact are not. Granted, he has said that he is not a pain mangement doctor, and this is true, but in dealing with his staff if I had more ability to navigate the system I would report them to the Attourney General. Dr. Merkin is a decent Neurologists and if it were not for that I would have fired him a long time ago.
