If I could give zero stars, I would. Paid a $50 specialist co-pay only to be seen by nurse practitioner who made a huge error in visit note. Waited three months for endoscopy appointment. Arrived at 7 am as directed. Then waited more than 5 1/2 hours to be taken in for procedure. Woke up from anesthesia soaked in urine, as they failed to catheterize me. Later, when I call to schedule a follow-up, I am told - when I try to change the follow-up to a date when I can see the doctor rather than NP - that Dr. Shapiro doesn't do follow-ups. DON'T YOU THINK THIS MIGHT BE SOMETHING YOU SHOULD TELL PATIENTS WHEN THEY FIRST SCHEDULE WITH YOUR OFFICE?!? As it stands today, it has been more than 3 weeks since my endoscopy, and I have yet to receive the results of the biopsies taken. I have never dealt with such an unprofessional and horribly run medical practice and will be making a formal complaint to the AZ State Medical Board and any other applicable authorities.

Dr. Michael Shapiro is an excellent MD. The whole office is perfectly organized. Also his physician assistant Lina Kay is excellent. AP

Dr. Shapiro is an excellent physician. Unfortunately, he has handed over his patients to a P.A. and doesn't see patients in the office anymore, except briefly once or twice a week. Instead, he does only procedures. His wife schedules those and he has 2 medical assistants. The staff, in general, is snippy and intimidating. My main complaint, however, is that I no longer have access to my doctor. I can't ask him questions, even if he's down the hall, or discuss my condition with him. I don't have confidence in the P.A. I want access to my doctor; I don't think that's unreasonable. The P.A. is moody, prescribes meds I can't tolerate, then bawls me out for not "cooperating;" and last year, attacked me verbally twice. If all that negative stuff were out of the way, it would be a great environment with an excellent doctor (he's very thorough). But if I have no access to him, what's the point?

Waited 7 weeks after procedure to get results. I called every week and he was too busy to call me and tell me the results.

My first initial new patient visit Dr. Shapiro spent over an hour and fifteen minutes with me. He thinks and analyze the situation more than any other dr. I have went to. Very nice and the staff was very onto of their game. He provided free samples also. Nice man, nice people.

Dr Shapiro and his staff put me at ease immediately. Both the doctor and his staff were professional yet considerate and welcoming. Doctor Shapiro has a wonderful bedside manner and despite what must be a very full schedule does not make one feel hurried in any way. The discussion was extensive and the printed handouts helped a great deal. I would recommend Dr Shapiro and his staff, most highly.

I've never had a doctor spend so much time with me and be so thorough! His staff is so accommodating and caring as well. I am very impressed

Dr. Shapiro comes highly recommended as the local expert on Crohn's disease, celiac disease, and colitis. He is a very evidence-based physician; do not expect him to be accepting of alternative treatments. However, he knows his stuff; although a bit bird-like, he is very good at what he does, and is well-known and respected for it.

He is very professional,experienced and really cares.
