Dr. Michael Sean Stanley, MD

Dr. Stanley told me that he was unable to provide therapy because he lived in the same neighborhood where I did. Also offered that he did not feel qualified to deal with me (PTSD-like isolation/alienation). I understand avoiding a personal relationship with a client, but the fact that I lived nearby does not qualify as a friendly overture or a remote threat. If he was merely unqualified, I could accept that, but to insist on so much insulation is cowardly and tantamount to the denial that the patient has a life outside of treatment. Dr. Stanley did not succeed at connecting me a with recommended provider and made insufficient effort to do so after describing my problems as something too severe for him to treat. As if a doctor who recognizes such a problem would allow his personal preference to determine whether or not to provide treatment.
