Dr. Monica Ann Hum, MD

Have visited multiple doctors over many, many years for a condition I "had". Most performed the same examination, each provided encouragement "healing" was on the way, each performed the same treatment or recommendation resulting in nothing more than a band aide. It's now been three months since Dr. Hum examined me and performed a procedure others are either not aware of or didn't feel was the solution. It was only a matter of minutes before Dr Hum diagnosed my issue and the following week performed a five minute in office procedure, ending serious discomfort, pain, suffering, embarrassment and discouragement. I am now better and wish I could post those doctors you should not consider. In addition to being a Doctor's Doctor, Dr. Hum is sincerely interested in you and your well being and has surrounded herself with an exceptional support staff. Thank you Dr. Hum!!!!

Dr. Hum is an excellent surgeon and has excellent bad side manner. I had been a patient with Dr. Hum for several years. Over the years the wait time has increased and the office staff has become very rude and incompetent. The PA's aren't as knowledgeable as they should be and lack a sense of compassion when you are getting ready to have surgery. I am no longer a patient due to the PA's who they are always trying to schedule you an appointment with and the office staff. I am very disappointed in how the office has changed in a negative way.

I had to have surgery, and Dr Hum was recommended by my physician. I must say, her demeanor is a plus right off the bat. She has a perfect mix of matter of factness, blunt how it is, humor and compassion. She answered my questions succinctly and clearly, offered options and professional opinion; patiently answer more questions laying everything out on the table. Some questions are uncomfortable to ask and she does an incredibly good job at making that easier and less embarrassing. She is confident in her abilities, and from my experience, rightfully entitled to that confidence. She walked me thru the entire process, and things went as she said. She told me if I did as instructed I would be out of the hospital in 4-5 days and well on my way to healing. And she was right about that as well. She came in and checked on me every afternoon in the hospital. Her PA, Laurie, also a fantastic member of Dr Hum's team, came in and checked on me every day at lunch; and her resident came in… and checked on me every morning. I count that as above and beyond, but welcome care and interest in the well being of the patient. I was out of the hospital and back at work within just over 3 weeks, not at 100%, but well able to function. I would not wish surgery of this type on any of my friends or family, but I can tell you, I would trust and recommend Dr Hum to any of them that needed it.

If you are looking for a top-notch colorectal surgeon or gastroenterologist, look no further. I sought out Dr Hum on a recommendation from my neurologist because I needed a second opinion on whether or not to have part of my colon removed. She not only helped me avoid surgery, but she located another polyp not found by my previous dr. In my consultation, she took all the time I needed, explained my options thoroughly, spoke in layman's terms using diagrams, clearly has vast medical knowledge, showed me how the robotic tools would work, calmed my fears, and was open to any and all questions. During the colonoscopy to mark the site should I need surgery, Dr Hum found she could excise both polyps safely, avoiding survey and being off work for a month. So now we have a closely monitored follow-up plan in place. During my colonoscopy. Dr Hum and the numerous staff who assisted the procedure at Piedmont Hospital were following protocol to the T, and she was clearly in charge. You would have… thought I was a VIP having open-heart survey! I was impressed. It's a night & day difference from any procedure I've ever had and trust me, I've seen my share of gastroenterologists. I can't imagine anyone better than Dr Hum.

Dr. Monica Hum is a caring, compassionate doctor. She spent over 45 minutes with me during my initial visit going over my diagnosis and explaining to me in detail what each of my options were. She was amazingly understanding and I felt like I was heard. For something that was extremely difficult and embarrassing for a 28-year-old female to be going through, Dr. Hum was understanding and comforting. After some time, I realized surgery was necessary and knew Dr. Hum was the only one I wanted performing this surgery. Surgery went MUCH better than expected and recovery has been easy, I think due to Dr. Hum's care and precision during surgery. I am only one week post-op currently, but am feeling so much better and am so grateful for Dr. Hum for giving me hope that this could soon be a distant memory. I would recommend Dr. Monica Hum to anyone and I will forever feel gratitude to her and the time she spent with me.

I had done extensive research then chose to visit 3 different CR surgeons. Dr. Monica Hum was the one I finally chose. The other 2 surgeons are 2 miles and 6 miles from my house. Dr. Hum is over 30 miles from my house. The travel proved to be well worthwhile. She has extensive technical and surgery experience which I heavily valued. But the most important determining factor is she has extraordinary manners in dealing with patient on the personal level. It is extremely hard to find a surgeon has both technical and also people skills together. She takes time to listen and explain all the necessary details to make patient feel comfortable and confident she is the right one to operate on you. It is not an easy decision to make for anyone, but she makes you feel at ease that you know all the things you need to well prepare. My surgery was very successful. All of the post-op visits were done in a very caring manner. I will recommend Dr. Hum to all of my family members… and friends if any one needs a CR surgeon. You won't go wrong with her. By the way, her office was very well managed and run. Her staff pick up the phone and answer every time I called. It is an atmosphere you feel very different from many other doctor's offices. Dr. Hum's staff are very responsive, clear, and thorough. You can feel it is an atmosphere created by good leadership, i.e. by Dr. Hum. Overall I can not say enough good things about Dr. Hum. Highly recommended!!

Dr. Hum was incredible. She has a way with people, she made me feel real comfortable through a scary process. Everything I had done went wonderfully.
