My husband and I were taken to Honolulu by a life flight because I had suffered a spontaneous bleed in my spine, a bleed that crushed my spinal cord. Of all the teams of doctors that met us in the trauma room of the hospital, Dr. Morris Mitsunaga, a self proclaimed bone doctor, was the only one willing to take on my "very complicated" case. He saved my life! While in the hospital he was at my bedside every day, sometimes multiple times, but always between 5:00 AM and 6 AM. The only exception was Thanksgiving when he came in at 8 AM. Waking up paralyzed from my waist down and with the upper left quadrant of my body in so much nerve pain it was unbearable, I lost my will to live. Dr. Mitsunaga was stern with me. He made it very clear that he had done all he could. The rest was up to me. He directed us to excellent rehabilitation care. So one year later, my pain is manageable, I am walking with a cane, I can do stairs and have a I have a state of the art implant that… "may" help me regain normal bodily functions. I continue to work at my recovery because Dr. Morris Mitsunaga took it upon himself to keep me alive.
