My doctor for 25 years ... they don't make doctors like this any longer!

After being a patient for 18 years, I was dumped by Dr. Shorofsky's office assistant Barbara on Obamacare grounds--when my insurance plan disappeared amid the fraud of "Affordable Care"--as the office policy is to not take any so-called "marketplace" plans for individuals! I can't blame Dr. Shorofsky for not liking these plans as they are Medicaid derivative. But even when I offered to pay whatever the cost might be piecemeal, I was still declined an appointment. Yes--he's a thorough doctor and knows his stuff, with a curmudgeon personality to boot. On HMO's I had with him pre-Obamacare, he advocated referrals and specialist care when matters could not be addressed in his office. When I was on the road, he told a doctor in Louisiana that I did not require heart surgery because what the doctor was seeing was simply a bundle branch block of no consequence. And yes, this guy still draws the patient's blood. BUT---when an insurance plan is lost through no… fault of the patient...let alone a long-time patient who would obviously find it difficult to connect with a new internist given several chronic health problems...it's a stab in the heart, and TOTAL LACK OF COMPASSION, to just toss the patient out in the street because the patient no longer has access to a plan the doctor likes. Part of being a doctor is caring about your patients through the difficulties they face in life. My health suffered as a result of not being able to find an internist able to address my problems over the ensuing two years. Shame on you, Dr. Shorofsky. It's OK to despise Obamacare. I do, too. But don't take it out on your patients. In this case, a patient who was willing to pay you out of his own pocket when the insurance plan changed.

Old School

I have seen him 5 times over 3 years. My experience is positive as he documented my family history, past experience with medical and non-medical events. I would trust him to be thorough and has demonstrated himself to be attentive to my needs.

He's a fine, caring professional.
