Dr. Neal Herman Shonnard, MD

I recieved a phone call from cascade orthopedics this morning. My spine is terrible and I need help. They said dr. Shonnard is my option and to get a referral from my dr.. 10 min after I hung up, I remembered seeing him 10 years ago for an at work accident. He spent 3 minutes with me, was sarcastic and skeptical the whole time, and patted me on the head asking if that hurts. I was in the lobby before seeing him and heard him talking to a recorder about various patients and how they just want drugs. He doesn't look at people apparently unless they were crushed by a car or hit by a chainsaw. He is a mean and NASTY person. I will not go to him for my current back problems. I cancelled my info at cascade orthopedics from the previous phone call. No thanks.

I have had several surgeries performed by Dr. Shonnard. All different areas of my body. The first was a back surgery for a herniated disc. I went in to surgery almost unable to walk at all, and woke up completely pain free and I haven't had any problems ever since. That was in 1996! Since then, he;s done bilateral carpal tunnel surgeries and a total knee replacement surgery. All good experiences with no infections or complications with any of them. My daughter in law had a carpal tunnel surgery with him recently and is also doing very well. I definitely recommend this guy.

My initial thoughts of Dr Shonnard was , "he was abit arrogant", but after 3-4 visits, I realized a better term would be confident and in addition this man is deeply committed to the well being of his patients. I never felt "pressured" to move forward with the surgery, just given the facts and was never hurried. It is too early to know if the surgery was a success or not, I believe Dr, Shonnard has done his part and now I have to do mine. I must add that my care post op at MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital was horrible and it is under review. I do want to thank Dr. Shonnard, as I said I believe he is dedicated to his patients, NOT arrogant, just confident, after all I want my spine surgeon to be sure of himself.

On a scale of 1 to 4, 4 being very good, I would rate Dr. Shonnard a 5!!

I had back pain and was sent to Dr. Shonnard by his retiring partner Doctor Brack. Dr. Shonnard put 2 X stops in my back and after surgery I had terrible pain going down my leg that I did not have before and still had terrible back pain. After telling Dr. Shonnard about this and about my poor hospital experience every 3rd word was a swear word and he told me to go find another doctor. I'm so much worse now than before his surgery. Other doctors have told me the x stops wouldn't fix my back pain. And the x stops are crooked and falling out of place. I wish I never had surgery with Doctor Shonnard.

I agree with the most recent reviews-- I was treated terribly by the Dr.'s PA and made to feel like I was doing something wrong when asking what to do about pain before and after the surgery. My experience was a terrible waste of time, and a LOT of money. When returning six months after the surgery (all of my symptoms returned), the Dr. told me that due to something that happened during the surgery, he thought I might be back (didn't inform me of this at the time). His PA just told me to pick up my records and go somewhere else. Stunned.

Overall surgery is still too recent to judge but the post surgery care is less than professional. Office staff is rude and uncaring about patients. Treated as though asking post surgery questions is a waste of their time and a real effort for them. By way of rudeness and not returning phone calls, they made it clear they did not want to hear from me. I found most of my information about the outcome of the surgery by researching the hospital records of the event. When specific questions were asked vague and pointless answer were given. Based on my experience be concerned about the level of care you will receive.

His medical knowledge seemed very limited . He was also very arrogant, condesending, and aloof. Didn't care about me. Another Doctor warned me about him and my family practice Dr won't refer patients to him anymore after my vist. It was useless and a waste of money for my Insurance company

DR Shonnard was one of the worst DR's I have ever seen. He paid no attention to what I was telling him. Told me I have a rash when I obviously am having some sort of neurological problem. The only thing I agree with him about is that he told me not to have neck surgery but I did not need to waste my time or money to see him to know that. I have never been so disappointed after leaving a Dr's office like I was when I left his and his nurse was unprofessional and rude.
