Dr. Nibu Mathew, MD

I had been a patient for several years and had no real issues with the doctor or the front office. I haven’t had any health issues and I have been in for regular physicals. Eventually he talked me into going on blood pressure meds and wanted to see me at 3 month intervals just to monitor it. Recently I called the office to see if I could just get my prescription filled and was informed that Dr. Mathew would need to see me. When I resisted, he called me in a belligerent manner and demanded that I come in for an office visit. He said, “You need to come in and I can make an appointment for you now. Are you going to do it or not?” When I told him the reason for my reluctance was that I had just been in for my annual physical weeks prior; he responded as though I had offered a ludicrous explanation and said the two matters had nothing to do with one another. He did take my bp at the physical and we agreed that it was okay, so I said I’d have to think about making a new appointment because… it didn’t make sense to me. His response was a very terse “It doesn’t have to make sense; it’s policy.” His manner was so abrupt, I called back to inform him that I was not willing to be talked to in that manner by my physician. I was told that he was unavailable to speak to at which point I voiced my complaint and raised the issue of finding a different doctor to the office staff. I thought about it for some weeks and decided that for the sake on continuity and to offer another opportunity, I made another appointment about six weeks later. I was ready to give it another go, but when he entered the waiting room he offered no friendliness and wanted to engage in a confrontational discussion. We each independently and simultaneously decided that this wasn’t going to work. He declared that he had too many patients to deal with one who was non-compliant and I said that I was not willing to have a doctor who refused to offer me a reasonable explanation concerning my health care. I have no reason to question his medical expertise, but I do feel that I am entitled to information and a more empathetic attitude. Jo at the front office is top-rate and she was a major reason for my giving it a chance to work.

Have been seeing Dr. Mathew for several years now. His office staff are all great and they know you, your not just an other patient. Dr. Mathew has called me personally. That is shows he really cares about his patients. The wait time is always under 15 minutes.

I’ve only met one other doctor in my 71 yrs of doctor visits as competent as Dr. Matthew. He’s knowledgeable and actually listens to you, I highly recommend him.

i can not praise the front office staff enough. i was told up front every time something was going to be done of the cost. i was told if something would be covered by my insurance and if not why. not many places care enough to take the time to do this. sue even took the time to explain to me the differences between the insurances out there, and jo was all smiles at the window. definitely plan on telling all my friends about this great office.

At my last visit, as if I wasn't sick enough, I also had to deal with Dr. Mathew's office staff. I had to pay out of pocket for my visit because they said I had a primary and secondary insurance, when in reality I have a Hospital indemnity plan and then a different medical insurance. Needless to say, Sue, did not want to hear about the difference between the two policies. To add injury to insult, they then told me I would have to call my insurance to get it straightened out which I did on the spot, and they told the insurance they were wrong and did it the way they wanted to. I'm not sure why they kept insisting that I call insurance if they were going to just do what they wanted to anyway. The only thing that got accomplished was a big out of pocket cost for me when I have always had medical insurance. Good luck to Dr. Mathew in keeping patients if this is what they can expect from his office staff.
