Dr. Nicolas Phan, MD

If I could give zero stars I absolutely would. He spent almost a total of maybe 5 minutes with me , and did not even look at the whole MRI. I truly believe if I had a different insurance, I would have been treated differently. I left feeling like a nobody, and cried the two hours home.

Dr. Phan and the whole neuroscience department at Cabell Huntington Hospital have been friendly, nice, responsive, and professional. I’ve had a previous fusion on my back in another state and seen other neurosurgeons over the years. I was referred to Dr. Phan by my PCP and I have to say that he’s been the nicest neurosurgeon I’ve seen. He went over my mri and listened completely to all of my symptoms and issues. I have spinal stenosis and herniated disks which required another fusion with Dr. Phan. The care I received from the whole neuroscience team at Cabell Huntington Hospital has been nothing short of top notch. I certainly don’t understand the negative reviews with Dr. Phan, he’s been the nicest neurosurgeon that I’ve seen over the years.

I have a c5 herniated disc (mri verified) with tingling in my left hand I was referred to Dr. Phan by my pcp due to how close the disc to my spinal cord. I saw Dr Phan on 10-21-19 he walked in the room asked me my pain level I answered a 6 but normally it’s higher but I was afraid to come across as a pill seeker due to my age (29). He examined my mri and explained that my spinal cord pressure wasn’t high enough for him to do surgery so to live with the pain and find a job that wouldn’t make it worse. And walked out the room without explaining anything else. I can not express what an awful experience this was. 1 star is a compliment there should be 0

I went to see Dr. Phan for issues with my lower back. I was in a serious accident several years ago and have already been through surgeries, physical therapy and other procedures while living in another state. He immediately wrote me off as a pill seeker and told me there was nothing wrong with me. I flat out told him I did not want pills, I wanted him to find out what I need to do to stop the pain I am in. This is all within two minutes of him walking into my room. He never once looked at any of my history, all of which I had ready for him. Refused to send me for an MRI to see if anything had changed since two years ago. Told me that unless I had pain in my leg, there was nothing wrong with my back. If he would have taken the time to read over my history, he would see why I have no leg pain. I highly recommend you do NOT visit "DR." Phan and find someone else. Someone with compassion and someone willing to actually take time and listen to you and seek to find out what is wrong with… you.

I found him to be very arrogant and did not address any of my concerns are helpful anyway...I was so disappoint I was hoping I had found a great Neurosurgeon....But not this one.
