Dr. Ohannes Agop Nercessian

Not the best conversationalist or with the best bedside manner. But, I think he knows what he's doing, unfortunately he doesn't spend more than five minutes with you. Checks the Xrays, points to problem if any, checks the corresponding part on your body then gives you a persciption for physical therapy. Unfortunately that's what you get when the insurance companies rule, so you have to go with the flow. I don't think it would be any different with another physician.

I am still stunned at the condescending, rude, belittling treatment I encountered during my visit with Dr. Nercessian. I had my MRI thrown on the examing table and was told it "was a piece of garbage, I should get my money back, I can't believe you payed for this." There was no examining my knee or how I walked at all. There was no caring in coming up with a future game plan or way to ease my pain and discomfort. I was treated as less than a human and I'm not sure if it was because I was being seen at a clinic. If a doctor feels that the people he is treating are less than human perhaps it is time to stop practicing. I got to see Dr. Nercessian by chance not by a recommendation. I am now urging anyone considering seeing him to really look elsewhere for a competent doctor. His nurse practitioner was equally as bad. The rest to the nurses and support staff were awesome and attentive. I would not recommend him to anyone. If I could give this man negative stars I would gladly do so.

Do not go to see this doctor!!!!! I came with a terrible injure to my knees after an accident. He took a 1 minute look at my x rays and because nothing was broken he dismissed me and told me just to come back in three weeks. No conversation about pain management, no conversation about how to deal with inflammation or physical therapy. He spent a total of 5 minutes with me, never looked at me in the eyes and then I got a bill for $500 !!!!!!

When I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in both hips that only could be remediated with total hip replacements, I turned to my closest friend since high school for advice. He's an orthopedist who's been flawless in his recommendations to my family, other friends and me over the years. Indeed, all the specialists, in various fields, whom he's recommended over the years have been excellent, without exception. He advised me most emphatically to see Dr. Nercessian. This was yet another excellent recommendation. Both surgeries, which took place in the spring and summer of 2014, could not have gone better. Post-op pain was minimal. I felt soreness rather than pain. Thus, no need for opiate painkillers; the occasional Tylenol at bedtime was all that I needed. Pre-op pain and stiffness in my legs and back from malfunctioning hips disappeared immediately after surgery. Incisions healed fully within days. Only cursory post-op PT was needed: 2 in-home sessions after my first surgery, none… after the second (though this was due mainly to my being in good condition, and a self-starter regarding the prescribed exercises). Within 2 weeks after each surgery, the newly-repaired leg felt strong and was functioning normally. For several months, I've been back to the full activities that I enjoyed previously. I can walk briskly again (12 minute miles, comfortably) and am back to playing (non-checking) ice hockey. I feel as if the clock has been turned back 15-20 years for me. Friends and neighbors are constantly complimenting me on how much better I look, and how I seem to be improving almost weekly in terms of posture. At my latest checkup, 8 months after the second surgery, Dr. Nercessian was not surprised that I'm feeling great: the X-rays, he said, showed a "textbook" result. He told me to see him next in 2 years. More encouraging yet was his opinion that getting 40 years' use out of my prostheses was entirely possible. To support this, he cited the case of one of his earliest hip replacement patients, who's still going strong, without revisions, after 30+ years. He has been excellent with follow-up. For example, to the surprise of many, he asked me to come in a week after each surgery for him to examine the incisions and remove the surgical staples himself. He's also been a good listener who welcomes questions and answers them cogently. If you don't ask questions, however, he does not seem the type to anticipate what later may be on your mind. Finally, I must add an interesting conversation that I had with a hospital orderly with whom I got friendly during my 2 stays. After 20+ years of seeing various patients come and go at Columbia Presbyterian, she thinks that Dr. Nercessian is tops in his field and would be her own first choice. In particular, she is most impressed by never having seen one of his patients readmitted for treatment of a post-op infection, which is a big problem these days, even in the best orthopedic hospitals. When I asked Dr. Nercessian about this, he confirmed that adhering to the highest sanitary standards is of prime importance to him, and that he takes this very seriously. Indeed, he proudly noted that only perhaps 2 of his 5,000+ hip replacement patients have suffered infections (and the last to suffer a dislocation of the artificial hip joint was over 15 years ago).

things like my knee ,scince u did the surgery u never came back to check it back except one time,and my knee is geting worst after the sugery so i need to come in early before wednesday

This is my second hip replacement with Dr. Nercessian, and each time he's offered nothing less than excellence in every way. Eighteen years ago, the internet was barely in existence so we found Dr. N through a series of good friends in the medical field. Everyone said he was the absolute best hip surgeon, and that has without question been the case for me. Now, after 17 years, my hip's still in perfect shape with the exception of the lining, that needed revision (it simply wore out). Today I am day 3 post-opt with a new lining, and already doing quite well. Dr. Nercessian has done thousands of hips, including revisions from other surgeons claiming newer and fancier techniques which unfortunately fail. If you want a surgeon who will be uncompromisingly honest and realistic with you, as well as offer the most excellent and experienced surgical expertise, than you can choose Dr. Nercessian with great confidence.

Dr. Nercessian is the best!

Dr Nercessian is a rude doctor and spent no time with me and barely looked at my knee. When he recommended physical therapy, he bragged that he treated NFL stars, I dont care!! I just wanted my knee better. I do not recommend him

More than 12 years ago, Dr. Nercessian performed a complicated hip replacement on me and it's still in good shape. This wasn't a straight forward procedure as a temporary interim procedure performed 10 years earlier required the doctor do some preliminary reconstruction before actually installing the artificial hip joint. And the stitching procedure was, at the time, quite groundbreaking, as the home care nursing staff who cared for me after surgery were interested enough to study what he'd done.There's no doubt in my mind that Dr. Nercessian was top notch in his field at one time but the implementation of managed care sent him into a tailspin from which he has obviously never recovered. At the time, I recall the doctor was beginning to complain a lot about how insurers are now calling the shots. He even told me his brother, a high-end car mechanic, was clearing way more money than he and without all his stress. He was obviously becoming disillusioned with with his chosen profession. … That kind of talk did strike me as odd at the time but I overlooked it since he had done such a superior job with my procedure. During subsequent follow-up visits, Dr. N grew increasingly agitated and disagreeable, talking more about our broken medical system than about my medical situation. Fast forward about five years, when I returned to Dr. Nercessian due to knee pain. Ultimately, I was hoping he'd perform a knee replacement but, by then, he'd become quite disagreeable and rudely pronounced that he would not consider performing that procedure unless and until I lost at least 50 pounds. I told him that was unlikely given my constant pain which severely limited my mobility. I realized then I was stuck between a rock and a hard place so I never went back. Six months later I found a local orthopedic surgeon who was willing to perform the procedure, which went very well. In my opinion, it's time for Dr. Nercessian to pack it in and move on from dealing with patients. Perhaps he'd be better suited to fulltime teaching (though God help his students) or research as it would be a crying shame to waste his obvious clinical ability. But this doctor should no longer deal one on one with patients --or even people in general. His negativity likely presents a danger to patients as it is affecting every aspect of his practice. Being around this man all day has got to be the worst job in the world. My condolences to his office/hospital staff who are forced to put up with this very unhappy man.This is truly a shame...

This doctor is the shining example of a flawed healthcare system (one he seems to never stop complaining about). The reviews below at first seem exaggerated but could not be closer to the truth, this man should not be trusted with the care of anyone. I went to him for a torn ACL, three years later under his care and I've retorn it twice, undergone 2 surgeries, torn my meniscus as a result of my knee's instability, and have suffered irreparable damage to my knee. Avoid at all costs if you value your health, please put this man out of a job.
