Dr. Deen is by far the most compassionate, thoughtful, and competent hospitalists I've had the honor to cross paths with. It's very difficult these days to find physicians in inpatient hospital medicine that treat you the same as your primary care doc would. Dr. Deen, however, proved that this "stereotype" simply doesn't exist. I've never been treated as an actual person, a patient, a human being. Doctors have always treated my specific symptoms or ailments; to a degree as if those symptoms defined who I was. Dr. Deen, on the other hand, was the first physician I found to genuinely treat me; as a whole patient and person, and at the same playing field, literally). The first thing he did after courteously greeting me,was sit down, lean over, and with ungloved hands, reach out to both of mine, stating everything's going to be fine. No doctor has ever treated me with that much respect. Aside from Dr. Deen's unrivaled bedside manner, his professional competency, combined with his… confidence regarding his treatment/ management plan, actually raised and had a dramatic impact on my own self confidence, as I clearly saw a physician in front of me that wanted to see me better more than I did, myself. That's a facet I've yet to see in other doctors, and I hope more would adopt and emulate this nonpareil level of care. He undeniably is a guiding light for not just other physicians, but more importantly to his patients. He is a physician that belongs to an extremely small, yet perhaps the most crucial group of doctors, those that truly understand "the art of medicine". There was a medical book I read a while back, and it said something specific in regard to the primary role of any physician, from the general practitioner to the neurological surgeon, and Dr. Deen paralleled to nearly every degree his commitment to naturally demonstrate this role. It read, "the primary role of every physician ..., is to comfort". Thank you Dr. Deen
