Dr. Patricia Lynn Payne, MD

As soon as the door closes as you walk in the office you are accosted to provide your payment. She is in it to make money - period. Her office is a dive, she uses her husband as the 'secretary' and this guys can't even remember calling you the day before. She is sarcastic, ends up telling you more about her family then listening to your child. She is made aware of a suicide attempt and not a peep - no reach out to see if she is ok - and can't bother to get her in right away for a visit after she leaves the hospital. Just add 30 minutes to your apt because she will never be on time. Just a really bad person and does not listen to your input about potential issues because she knows it all even though all she does is give your kid a brief survey and has no interest in hearing your childs words / feelings. Bring something up as a parent and you get " Well wouldn't you do that if you were her?" making you feel like an idiot. THE WORST

She is there to make money and write scripts. You can say one thing and she immediately writes a new prescription. She never listened to our family history of bipolar and just kept pushing pills. She then always said I wonder why nothing is not working and she would go on saying "he is drug resistant" after 15 to 20 different medications coming on and off with an attempt of him trying to leave this world because of the medications - and spending 5 weeks in a Hospital. She would also would scare him saying I think the only thing is "Shock Therapy" which scared him even more BTW we are now talking about a then 16 year old now a 18 year old. My bad as I still trusted and hoped for a positive outcome for over 2 years. This is a very confusing place to be in and most good Doctors have a long wait list and wondering should I take him off every medication as we wait? There are ways as I called his primary Doc and asked for him to fill the medications that I knew that he needed till… we found another doc he was more than happy to help. Now that we have left and found another I realize how wrong this whole situation was. Normally I don't write stuff like this but please be aware.

She will spend the entire appointment reading and writing, she wont look at the patient or their parents, she talks down to them and always has an attitude like your doing something wrong. She was never on time for her appointments and would often make us sit and wait for 30-45 minutes. She has a complicated office staff and they are never quiet prepared causing a lot of billing issues. My son was suicidal she didn't return my call for nearly 6 hours (by then I had him checked in and in someone elses care) then she left me a voicemail and NEVER followed up. When I finally called for a follow up she took him off his meds. Never asking what the outcome of his stay was or how he was doing. We have seen many child psychs over the years and we had never been treated so badly.

My son was under Dr. Payne's care for 2 years and in those two years many drugs where prescribed, I often felt my son was a guinea pig for the meds she prescribed, as it was an experiment to see what worked for him.  Needless to say, none of the drugs actually had an effect on my son ability to earn an A in school.  I was stunned when Dr. Payne actually thought that there are drugs that would help with my son's learning disability, miraculously he would become an A student!  Every visit consisted of the same routine, with the same set of questions and paid very little attention to my concerns.  If one drug didn't work, Dr. Payne was eager to prescribe another, it wasn't until I brought to her attention that the drugs had no affects and perhaps he needed to be re-evaluated by a specialist.  Dr. Payne showed her true colors when she dropped my son from her care and insisted on getting paid for the rescheduled appointment.  This is a person who cancelled two appointments with me a couple… of hours prior to my son's scheduled visits, without an apology or explanation, yet felt justified in expecting payment when I rescheduled an appointment for a very good reason.  It is fair to say that I would not recommend Dr. Payne, she is a strong advocate for pharmaceutical companies, she does her part in pushing unnecessary drugs at the cost of her patients.

Perhaps she is bias on her patients, I was a patient of hers since I was 10-17 years old. I continually was put on various amounts of medication, and never got reasonably better within her care. My counselors were of most help to me and my recovery. Upon moving out of the state, I had found from another Psychiatric doctor, that she was putting me on too high of dosage from when I was young- to probly about 16 years old. Herself and staff are not friendly, and she liked to make belittling comments toward me even when my father was accompanied in the room. She wants me to pay a hefty price for my medical records and I was unsure why. I do not recommend this doctor to children, and I think parents need to do a thorough analysis on these medications and their specific dosages, and educate themselves and their children.

So far my daughter and I like Dr. Payne, although we are fairly new to her practice. The initial diagnosis seems right and my daughter seems to be responding to the medication good. We are in the "wait and see" mode for now
