Dr. Paul Joseph Hecht, MD

Went to see Dr. Hecht about an ankle that had been fractured years ago and was starting to cause me pain. He recommended a total ankle replacement (which was recalled 6 weeks after surgery). He also was going to do a subtalar fusion (which I guess he forgot to do). I am so much worse now and have been in constant pain for the past 5-1/2 years since the surgery. Can no longer drive or walk further than the mailbox. He had no answers for me, so I ended up at another surgeon who is working with me to deal with removing the replacement, bone grafts and fusion (and HE did the subtalar fusion)!

He treated me exactly 20 years ago when we were both in Philadelphia . I was a 2nd year medical student and because of him, I walked and worked through rotations, residency and served as an active duty Air Force officer. I can walk, wear short heels and am ever grateful for his care. Anyone unlucky enough to break an ankle, would only be so lucky to have Dr Hecht as your Surgeon. To the smoker who gave him a zero, you May not undertand that smoking prevents wound healing. He did you a favor by not cutting you open as he knows you won’t heal if you are smoking. You should be thanking him and re-rating him a 5!!

His bed side manners are worse than toilet water. Seen him 2 times for surgery on a 3 cm tear on my achilles tendon and he wont do surgery unless I completely quit smoking. Wanted me to use chantx to quit not patches. Well he also ran my pcp from Dartmouth into the ground. NEVER will I refer him to anyone and will get a orthopedic dr in Concord. So my review for him is 0!

As a ret . Harvard trained physician in a Clinical/Academic setting, a visit to DHMC rewarded me with a world class experience via Dr. Hecht. Boston/NYC to Hanover is around the corner.

This doctor was kind and very understanding that I was very apprehensive about having the surgery but he made it a very easy time for me.
