He completed his internship in 1980 at Doctor's Osteopathic Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania. He then completed a one-year general surgery residence at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Michigan. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency in 1984 at Metro Health Center in Erie, Pennsylvania. From 1984 to 1986, he practiced in Junction City, Kansas. Since that time, he has been in practice in Joplin, Missouri. Dr. Toma is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He enjoys outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. Dr. Toma has been married since 1979 to Joplin/Carthage pediatrician Denise M. Hamar, D.O. They are the parents of one son, Michael, of Springfield, Missouri.
