Dr. James Richard Boyle, MD

My husband is post op from acl reconstruction about 3 months. Been to every physical therapy except 2. Went in for a follow up appointment and when my husband was describing having pain worse and different than when he first came to Boyle all he said was “that’s what happens when you miss physical therapy and there is nothing that can be done except more physical therapy.” Didn’t even bother to do any imaging on the knee just to be sure. Very disappointed as he came highly recommended.

This is an abusive Dr. He perform surgery on me 3 times . 2 failed forearm surgeries and a failed pinky surgery. I would not have received my second surgery on my arm had I not demanded it. He yelled at me when I demanded my arm to be repaired after it did not heal. He refused to do the rod/nail procedure I requested, and did a bone graft that has failed and caused severe wrist pain, the screws are about to come out of my arm. Every move the screws are tearing and the broken bone is pinching. I almost throw up from the pain. He didnt tell me my first ct scan result saying it was a malunion, after my constant communication it is still broken. It was still broken. He only operated after I demanded then refused to treat me with the procedure I requested which would have perfectly aligned and joined my arm. My pinky had pus squirting out of it after he denied me treatment to fix it wish I could post pictures. Severe pain radiates from my pinky all the way up to my elbow pinching moving… tearing this is all sickening to me. I spoke to so many people even staff at the hospital that said he was a terrible surgeon he had worked on there spouses. I contacted patient relations at Freeman and he still refused to treat me in a manner that would solve my nonunion. Do not go to this guy he has absolutely no empathy whatsoever you will be very sorry. Do not choose him if you are injured at work or anywhere. Because you can't pick again after your first doctor on workers comp in Missouri.

We visited Dr. Boyle's office for my daughter's knee injury. An MRI was ordered. I asked if she should be in a brace while we waited on the results and he said what's done is done. I later learned she should have been in a brace immediately. When we went back for our follow up we were told by Dr. Boyle that she had torn her ACL. The way he delivered the news was so unprofessional. He asked if we wanted the good news or the bad news first (this gave us hope that there was actually good news). He said, the good news is I know what I'm talking about and the bad news is you need surgery. He did not review the MRI results with us. We scheduled the surgery, but did not feel comfortable with the diagnosis. We got our MRI report and it stated that the MRI showed she had sprained her ACL, not torn it. When I called Dr. Boyle's office to discuss this, I was contacted by someone (other than the doctor) who explained that Dr. Boyle used the results of the MRI in addition to his physical… examination of the knee to give us the diagnosis. The problem with this was that Dr. Boyle never touched my daughter's knee on our second visit. He did not talk to her about how she was feeling or if she had any pain. He did not exam her knee at all. When looking online at all the symptoms of a torn ACL, we found that it didn't match my daughter's symptoms. A professional doctor who had the best interest of his patient in mind, would have taken more time to discuss the injury and how she was feeling to make the correct diagnosis. We decided to seek a second opinion and thank God we did. The doctor used her MRI and a physical exam to reveal that she had indeed not torn her ACL, but had a sprain. We used physical therapy as advised by this doctor to treat this injury. My daughter is a basketball player. If we would have proceeded with surgery as advised by Dr. Boyle she would have sat out her entire junior year of basketball. She would have began her junior year of high school not able to drive a car. She would have stayed in bed recovering from a surgery that was not necessary. Dr. Boyle did not thoroughly exam my daughter to find that she did not have a tear. He did not ask the questions the other doctor did to find that she did not tear her ACL. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. I can't believe he was willing to perform unnecessary surgery on a teenager. Please be advised!
