Dr. Pete Setabutr, MD

Pitching in a 12" men's softball league, one game a particularly strong and skilled lad stepped up to the plate and hit a shot back up the middle at me. The ball came so fast that my glove hand could not react. The line drive glanced off my webbing and into my eye, fracturing the bridge of my nose and nearly destoying my eye. The impact blew out my orbital floor. Trauma induced glaucoma, cataract and anisocorea ensued. The eye had to heal before any thought of repairing the blowout which pushed in the eye 3 mm. Under the care of ophthalmologist Dr. Raj Majmudar, cataract surgery a year later along with a lasso procedure to close down the fixed iris was a success. Miraculously, my vision was restored from legally blind in that eye, to 20/20. Finally, a repair of the blowout could be considered and I was referred to Dr, Setabutr. He carefully examined my past and present state, and rather than rushing to operate, he counseled me otherwise. He guided me to understanding that the reward of… moving my eye 3 mm, though cosmetically preferable, did not outweigh the associated risks. I commend Dr. Setabutr for his adherence to his Hippocratic oath.
