Dr. Althausen received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. While in medical school, he also received an MBA in healthcare administration from the same institution. His orthopaedic residency was completed at the University of California Davis Medical Center. After residency, Dr Althausen completed a fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. He has been practicing at the Reno Orthopaedic Clinic since 2005.

Dr. Althausen is subspecialty trained in trauma and focuses on both pediatric and adult fracture care. Special areas of interest include pelvis and acetabular fractures, periarticular fractures, and complex polytraumatic injuries. He currently serves as a visiting clinical professor at the University of California Davis Medical Center and UNR. He remains committed to teaching and research. Dr. Althausen has published a variety of articles and textbook chapters and is currently …involved in multiple projects concerning pelvic and acetabular injuries, compartment syndrome and periarticular fracture care.Dr. Althausen is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Althausen's orthopaedic specialty is in trauma.

Dr. Althausen did 4 surgeries on my right thigh to remove a large abscess caused by an infection which was dormant for nearly 25 years. His expertise literally saved my life, as sepsis had begun to set in. He's not only a great surgeon, but a very personable human being. I gave him 5 stars only because I couldn't give more.

The staff at ROC are amazing. They’re all extremely competent and friendly. And Dr. Althausen is amazing. He got me in for surgery within two days and I as in and of surgery in record time. His understanding of an active life and what’s needed to keep that is very much appreciated and I look forward to getting back to the activities I love. Thank you thank you ROC!

My husband had a spiral fracture in his lower leg from a skiing accident, and Dr. Althausen could not have done a better job, both with repairing the injury and in explaining everything to us. Super friendly and willing to answer any question, loved that. He is the best!

On Mar 23, 2019 I had an awful traumatic fall and among my injuries I had several shattered ribs on my right rib cage needed surgery several days later for other reasons and when the extent of my rib injuries were discovered Dr Peter Althausen was consulted he came in the OR assessed my needs and stabilized 3 of my unstable ribs with titanium plates this aided and speeded up my recovery time Thank you Dr Althausen

He is able make you feel like he cares about getting you better and has a calming effect, although I rejected him at first. He is knowledgeable, funny and cute. A good doctor.
