Dr. Peter Marvel Kelleher, MD

I thought the doctor was very friendly and informative. I was uncomfortable with how close he got to me given covid, and their no mask policy. He's the first person that's been that close to me in a long time but outside of that it was fine.

Six weeks ago, I suffered an avulsion fracture in my wrist. After spending over a month in a cast, my primary physician referred me to Dr. Kelleher. I certainly wish she hadn't. To echo a previous review, Dr. Kelleher was extremely cold and unsympathetic; it seemed as if he felt my appointment was a waste of his time. He was in and out of the exam room in less than five minutes, and in those five minutes, he not only attempted to insult my intelligence, he also appeared to be going through the motions. He barely examined the wrist and spent most our time in the exam room making an extended analogy about wet cement that was completely unnecessary, as I already understood the situation. My disdain for him must have been noticeable on my face, as he said "Look, I'm not trying to give you a hard time here," even though that's exactly what he was doing--sort of like when people begin a sentence with "No offense," and proceed to say something offensive. I have seen several… doctors in various states over the years and I can confidently say Dr. Kelleher would be the only one I would never want to see again. I went into the appointment hoping to avoid surgery. I ended up in a splint and was told not to come back unless the pain continued. He won't have to worry about seeing me again. If I ever injure myself in the future, I'll make a splint out of duct tape and schedule a check up with my dogs. At least I know they would listen and treat me with a modicum of respect. I hate to give the entire facility one star, as everyone else was friendly and professional, and I'm sure Dr. Kelleher is a skilled surgeon who is very knowledgeable. But as Maya Angelou said: "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." He made me feel like a waste of time, and I will always remember that.

I am critical of doctors. I've been an intense high level athlete most of my life. This Includes being a dual sport All-State athlete in wrestling and football, an Honorable Mention All-American rugby player in college, and an ultra-marathoner running up to 100 miles and I am 42. I'm sure you can understand that means I have seen several orthopedists in my life time enabling me to discern what a quality physician brings to the table . I also have a master's degree in secondary science education and I have been interested in the human body since junior high school. Plus I have coached multiple different sports at the high school level and I have been a certified personal trainer for over a decade. At one point, I was voted one of Denver's top trainers. I sit on a human performance advisory board for a quarter billion dollar wellness company. I have a background in anatomical sciences and I know how to have positive experiences with students, athletes, and clients. So, like I said, I am… critical of my doctors, especially orthopedists, and I will gladly go find another if the one I have visited does not meet my standards. Consequently, when I visited Dr. Peter Kelleher I was seeking a much better experience than I had with the previous Physician Assistant I dealt with at another facility. No matter whether I meet with a doctor or P.A., first I expect to be examined thoroughly and asked questions that help the physician understand, not only my background and personal knowledge, but also my anatomical dilemma. Most issues I can deal with myself so when I visit a doctor I expect them to take that into consideration, and help me to make an informed and collaborative decision. Dr Kelleher was exceptional in this regard. He quickly assessed my lack of mobility and asked the right questions to determine what had led me to his office and what I was hoping to achieve. He sought to understand me and never assumed he had all the answers. Then he offered various approaches, increasing in invasive nature, giving me the possible anticipated outcomes of each. Still, he continued to investigate and recommended necessary detailed scans so that he could be sure of what he was suggesting for an approach to treatment. Upon the subsequent visits I found him to be very practical and open in his approach. He was very honest about all the alternatives and possible results. He treated me as if I was his most important patient. He continues to assist me in my progression and has even taken time to communicate with me about the insurance coverage. I believe I am the ultimate authority in the decision making processes for my health, and that my doctors are meant to be my resources for making solid decisions for quality living. Unfortunately, I also believe most patients expect doctors to "fix" their problems, which is often difficult to achieve, especially when patients don't intend to participate and take accountability for their own health. My recommendation to all my friends and clients with orthopedic issues will be to visit Dr. Kelleher whether for a first or second opinion. Dr. Kelleher is more than competent in his knowledge and application of the most current and scientifically backed approaches to treatment and he freely shares his understanding of these approaches. More importantly, Dr. Kelleher maintains an investigative demeanor and offers various practical approaches to help his patients feel confident they are making the right decision for the best future outcome and quality of life. That is clear demonstration of the sincere desire to serve the patient. As long as I am in Bozeman I will see Dr. Kelleher, and he has already indicated that he will refer me to another physician if I have an orthopedic problem that does not fall within his expertise. Meanwhile, my intent with this review is to serve those of you looking for a credible review of the doctors available.

Made me feel like I was insane. Told me nothing was wrong with my hand. Took x-rays, telling me he didn't see anything wrong. Wasn't gentle. ...made me cry! As he walked out the door, he said, "and I'm not giving you any narcotics! " (I hasn't asked for any! ) I went to a different orthopedic, and x rays revealed I was bone on bone with bone spurs. I need surgery! Extremely rude, and treated me like I was only there for drugs! Horrible
