Dr. Peter Richard Mandt, MD

Amazing surgeon, caring, but quiet demeanor and to the point. My knee is better then it’s ever been after 4 years post surgery. Dr. Mandt performed the 9th surgery I’ve had in my lifetime and I am all good, I can go for walks, hiking, etc….

Dr Mandt performed an ACL repair of my right knee in 1992 when he worked at Virginia Mason and I am still going strong. No issues whatsoever.

Dr. Mandt performed a failed multiligament reconstruction surgery on my knee. This was a revision surgery because my original botched ACL surgery was done by Dr. Castle. Dr. Castle did an ACL reconstructive surgery in 2012, placing the graft in a non-anatomic position which caused major issues of instability leading to a multiligament problem on my left knee. My right knee was also injured because of having to compensate for the residual instability caused by Dr. Castle’s negligence. I met with Dr. Mandt years later, and he convinced me that he could fix my knee with a multiligament revision, while validating Dr. Castle’s poor surgical skills. I had my revision surgery done with Dr. Mandt with disastrous results. Not only did he fail to stabilize my knee, he has caused chronic pain. I displayed feeling of instability within weeks after surgery showcasing that this was indeed his surgical incompetence which failed to stabilize my knee joint. I showed him that my knee was… still shifting and expressing the lack of integrity in the reconstruction. He proceeded to tell me that there was nothing that he could do at this time, and that some people “can [subluxate] their knees like that, it’s a party trick”. After months of the condition continuing to exacerbate, he continued to tell me that there was nothing that he could do and that I just “healed” like that and refused to take fault in his work. Other surgeons have confirmed that his reconstruction was a complete failure. Communication with the doctor diminished soon after the surgery. Even my physical therapist who works at Proliance could not get ahold of his post-surgery rehab protocol. Because of poor instructions after my surgery, I ended up getting a DVT due to lack of mobility as I was left in the dark with neither myself or my therapist knowing what to do. Dr. Mandt’s lack of empathy was further accentuated by his choice in terminating me from care. Instead of being honest and taking responsibility, this doctor chose to disregard and give up on me. I’m 24 years old with chronic knee pain and instability caused by the incompetence of Dr. Mandt and Dr. Castle. I was an avid athlete with a single ACL injury, that has become a highly complicated issue all because of their medical negligence. Shame on you Dr. Mandt for your lack of integrity and arrogance. I will never forgive you for ruining my quality of life.

Dr. Mandt performed knee replacement surgery on my elderly mother. She is still recovering from the surgery. During her post op visit he dismissed her concerns regarding a letter she needed him to sign in order for insurance to help cover costs. He told her he didn't have time for that and had other people waiting. He has been unhelpful. The office will not help her. She is four months out. No help. She would not choose him as her surgeon again.

He was wonderful. Knee is still working great!

It is hard to give a single grade because of the drastically different experiences before and after surgery. I've had knee problems for years and multiple surgeons all said essentially, "You're too young for a knee replacement and there is nothing else we can offer." Dr. Mandt gave me 3 different options, none of which were a knee replacement. We opted for a femoral osteotomy which is very invasive, and very painful but would also give me 10-15 years of being able to play sports and be active. The procedure was smooth and I would give Dr. Mandt 5 stars for his part, he is absolutely the best at what he does. However, the anesthesiologist that performed my nerve block failed, it didn't work at all and I spent 90 minutes in the worst pain of my life which required everything in me to avoid screaming. The support staff around Dr. Mandt could not be more inconsiderate and dismissive. I'm currently on hold with them and it periodically tells you your position in the cue. Somehow 12… minutes ago I was 4th then went to 5th, then back to 4th and back to 5th. I have no idea what kind of crazy phone system they have but it appears that people are somehow able to take cuts. I talked to an assistant there on 3 days ago expressing concern that I would run out of pain medicine. He assured me that it was important that I take what I need to be able to sleep. Now I'm out and I've called 3 times and they are about to close for the day so I'll be in for an excruciating night... They answered the phone and told me I can leave a message for the assistant. I insisted that someone else must be capable of calling the Bellevue office and asking them to write the prescription so I can have it picked up. And now I'm on hold again... the receptionist came back and just told me that she would email him and told me to leave him another voicemail. Their care for my comfort and healing could not be lower. If they are so understaffed that they cannot respond to serious needs the same day then their office manager should be fired.

I've had lateral meniscus transplant and OATS surgery with Dr. Mandt in 2016 and was already back playing soccer 8 months later. I had numerous regular follow ups later and Dr. Mandt has always paid close attention to even tiny details and taken the time to explain the symptom, cause and medical options going forward.

In terms of Dr. Mandt's medical and surgical skill, I would give a 5 stars, absolutely top notch based on my personal surgery results from Dr. Mandt. The reason I am giving a 1 star here is completely due to near inhuman cruelness my mom was treated with by the scheduling staff / coordinators in the Bellevue office. If Yelp provides a way to give negative ratings, I would have given them a NEGATIVE FIVE stars. My mom flew from all the way from a foreign country just to see Dr. Mandt. Her appointment was on 1/4/2017. During the check in, we made it very clear that we were going to pay cash ourselves since my mom does not have insurance in U.S. Surprisingly, the front desk staff asked us for her passport or they will not accept her. I was NEVER told to bring her passport at the time when I scheduled her appoint over the phone. They also told us that they would only give us 15 minutes window to present the passport or they were going to cancel the appointment. Since we do not live very… far from the Bellevue office (about 3 miles), my wife hurriedly drove home, fetched my mom's passport and drove back. I grabbed the passport outside the office building from my wife, took the elevators back to the 7th floor and literally limped with my left knee (which previously had big cartilage transplant surgeries) in a hurry in an attempt to dash back to the front desk within time limit. When I get the front desk, the staff crew told me that I was TWO MINUTES late by then and she had to cancel this appointment... Even after I explained to them that my mom flew all the way from a foreign country to see Dr. Mandt and that her returning flight is the day after tomorrow, they were still very firm on turning my mom away and simply stated that they could not do anything about it and that there were no longer any empty slot to see Dr. Mandt before my mom flight back. Even worse, after they realized that I had a photo of my mom's passport's photo page on my cell phone, they said they might possibly have accepted that but "too bad, it's now too late". The cruelness we encountered with the staff crew in the Bellevue office simply astonishes me. It seems like all they care about is maximizing the revenue from as many office visits as possible and they do not have even the slightest sense of professionalism or human sympathy. To treat a 61-year-old lady who travelled across the globe to see Dr. Mandt like this, that's about as cold as anyone could possibly be to even work in the medical industry.

I never take the time out of my day to write reviews or rate doctors but this doctor was exceptionally good and I think he deserves the acknowledgement! I also want to acknowledge his Medical Assistant Korine (sorry if I spelled it wrong) she is the sweetest girl ever and her personality just makes you want to be there (weirdly enough) shes awesome and very knowledgeable herself! Dr. Mandt treated me with much patience and care that I would expect from a father, he didn't rush any of my appointments and made SURE I thoroughly understood my ACL and Meniscus injury and was completely clear on the surgery and procedure he would be performing. He even took the time to draw out pictures to help me understand and made me feel super comfortable in asking questions. This man truly cares about his patients and I have a lot of respect for him because of that, he is very personable and kind and takes the time to know his patients.. I just really appreciate his kindness throughout everything. I… highly recommend him to anyone getting surgery or someone that will be needing an orthopedic doctor for a long period of time.. he's very trustworthy, down to earth, sweet and caring.. very much like a family member..
