Summary
Greetings! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado. I have worked as a therapist for the past twenty years. Over the years I have worked with a wide variety of populations. I started my career working with at-risk adolescent boys in residential treatment. This led to many connections in my community and a wide variety of professional opportunities. Over the years my clients have included victims of trauma and abuse, incarcerated individuals, and youth and families involved in the foster care system. I have worked with individuals who have severe and persistent mental illness and dually-diagnosed individuals who are dealing with addiction and mental health issues and personality disorders.
Most recently, I have been working as a private practice therapist providing services via telehealth. Prior to the pandemic I was skeptical about telehealth and viewed it as something that was a "last resort" if face to face meetings were not an option. Over the past eighteen …months I have been amazed at the effectiveness of telehealth therapy. I have had the honor of partnering with clients who have made significant changes in their lives. I have been humbled by the determination and fortitude I have witnessed as individuals navigated their way through existing mental health struggles amplified by the pandemic. While telehealth therapy is not the best choice for everyone, it is a really great option for many as it minimizes barriers to actually making it to an office each week in person. I have seen some of the most significant changes of my career in clients who engage in telehealth. There is something about being in your home, maybe in your pajamas with your pets and favorite beverage, that makes therapy feel less scary and more familiar.
My first priority in therapy is to create a space where you feel safe to share what you are dealing with. I believe in the inherent worth and dignity of all humans and we often lose sight of our worth while we are busy living. Once you feel safe and worthy of an improved life, we can get down to working on specific ways for you to create that life. I use a holistic, trauma- informed approach which incorporates Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and psycho-education based upon your specific needs. As a trained neurofeedback practitioner, I also incorporate techniques based in neuroscience to help you change the actual functioning of your brain to help you reach your goals. I am a parent coach and have witnessed (and lived) the challenges of parenting in our modern world where youth are exposed to media and influences they must learn to successfully navigate throughout their developmental stages. Human beings are often messy and complex but within that often lies our full depth of human experience. It is often in the midst of the storm we find the best parts of ourselves. From that space we can develop resilience and skills on which to build a rich and meaningful life and deepen our connections to others. Embarking on the journey of self-discovery through therapy is not easy but it can positively alter the course of your life.
When I am not working I can be found reading, cooking, hiking, bird-watching, making music, spending time with family and adoring my pets among many other things. I laugh a lot, often at myself and my own jokes, much to the chagrin of my family. I am still trying to master the life skill of actually putting laundry away before it is worn along with some of the harder and more important things like self-compassion and not comparing myself to others. Overall, I try not to take myself too seriously so I can focus on my passion and purpose, which is to help others experience a life with less suffering and pain and more joy.
Some words from my clients...
"She is truly the best therapist I’ve had, and I’ve had plenty. Being able to form a trusting bond and know that no matter what I can tell her anything has helped get me out of a lot of bad mental places. It’s hard to open up in the name of vulnerability and anxiety but she makes it so much easier. "
"Words can’t express how much she has helped me. I’ve been working with her for almost a year and a half and I looked forward to our sessions every week. She puts things in new perspectives and helps me through my issues with ease. I appreciate everything she has done for me. "
"What a gem. Has helped me through serious life changes and impacted my life in many positive ways. Kind but will challenge your assumptions. Guides you towards insights — lovely, lovely. "
"She is hands down the best in her profession! She has been able to really help me work through a lifetime of trauma and I honestly think of her as family. She has been one of the biggest blessings and supports in my life. "
I look forward to being on this journey with you! We'll laugh together, cry together and both be changed for the better!
