Dr. Raffi Ara Chalian, MD

I find Dr. Chalian to be a compassionate, caring, attentive, and very proactive doctor, ie, he has a great sense of urgency about my medical condition. From the time I made an appointment with him, I was able to see him in 2 days. When he was unable to get a sample of my mass(as 2 other doctors weren’t able to either), he immediately scheduled outpatient surgery at Glendale Adventist Hospital(btw, the staff there were great – they answered my questions and were very kind and professional) in 1 week. 3 days later, Dr. Chalian called me with the report that my mass was an aggressive form of cancer. The next day, I had CAT scans done, and in 3 days he met with me to go over the results and his recommended treatment of surgery ASAP(he actually set up a tentative surgery date). I had about 24 questions to ask him about the type of cancer I had, as well as about the treatment he recommended for me. He answered all my questions to the best of his ability and with straightforward honesty. He… always asks me if I had any more questions, and he always reassures me that I will be well taken care of. Dr. Chalian also supported my decision to seek a second opinion about my treatment(he wasn’t defensive about it – he had a positive attitude). I sensed that he was more interested in getting me healed, rather than it was all about him. His office assistant Violet was very helpful in getting my medical records from my primary physician(had a problem there), as well as resolved my health insurance denial of service for part of my CAT scan. In summary, I’m very happy and fortunate that I went to see Dr. Chalian, especially when I had a very difficult time finding an ob-gyn oncologist who could see me within a week’s time(usually when I called such a specialist like him, I would be given an appointment one or two months from when I called).
