Dr. Ramachandra B Kolachalam, MD

The communication from the office staff is AWFUL! I had a surgery in 2024 and was given all of the necessary codes that this doctor's office and the hospital would use to perform my surgery. Prior to the surgery, I called my insurance company to get an idea of what the cost would be based on the codes I was given from Uraldy at this doctor's office. I was told it would be around $170 out of pocket which is why I proceeded with the surgery. After the surgery, I received bills totaling $900. I spent all of 2025 dealing with UHC and this doctor's office trying to get this handled and got nothing but a run around from both. I counted at least 7 times from my notes from June 2025 to Jan 2026 that Uraldy at this doctor's office told me she would call me back and never once did. I always had to call her back and each time she would give me different information as to conversations she had with the Ascension/Henry Ford Hospital billing department or that she would talk to the doctor to… see what they could do. For the past 30 days, she would not return any of my calls. Today I talked to someone else who basically told me they won't help me anymore and that "during surgery the doctor can just add more codes as needed which can jack the price up, oh well, we are no longer helping you" and literally hung up on me. I do not recommend this doctor's office as they do not provide all of the codes needed to give you an accurate quote. I will also add that during my surgery the doctor was training medical students and walking them through every incision and discussing every layer of skin and the various layers that bleed more than others. Not necessarily anything that you want to hear as you lay there on the table during a surgery.

Dr.Kolachalam performed my surgery about 7 months ago. During my post surgery follow up, there was no exam. I told him there seemed to be hardening in my incision area. He said that it should go away in a few weeks. He just thanked me for coming into the office and asked me to leave a review. At that time, I thought my experience was good. A few months later, I had a visit with my gyno and she immediately noticed the mass and told me that was concerning and to follow up with Dr. Kolachalam and have another Ultrasound. I did just that. During my appointment with Dr. Kolachalam, he stated that the mass was definitely not normal and indicated that there could have been internal bleeding. I took another ultrasound and was told that he'd follow up in two weeks. Well, after three weeks of not hearing anything, I called his office. He told me that he now needed to order a Thyroid Scan and that his office would contact me the next day with the appointment time. Well, I never received a call.… After weeks of waiting, I called and was told that Providence is extremely backed up with doing any scans and as soon as they could get an appointment they would call. Never received that call. I have been calling the office for over two months and they always take my phone number and say that Dr. Kolachalam will call me back. Never received a call. I called again on Tuesday and was told that they'd scheduled a call for Dr. Kolachalam to call me on Thursday at 4:15. Never received a call. I called the office at 4:29 and was told that he'd left the office around 2 PM and that he'd call me on Friday. Didn't receive a call. I have never experienced such negligence and unprofessionalism as I have with this doctor. I have encountered sleepless nights because I don't know what's going on or whether the mass is malignant or other issues exist. I don't want anyone to ever encounter my experience with this doctor.

I have had Dr. Kolachalam for 2 surgeries. He is an excellent surgeon. He and his staff were very professional, kind, caring and informative. I highly recommend Dr. Kolachalam when choosing your general surgeon!

I was very satisfied with my experience with Dr. Kolachalam. Even though I needed somewhat urgent surgical care, he took the time to meet with me before the surgery to discuss the procedure and answer all my questions. Despite some complications that he encountered during the surgery, the procedure and outcome were successful. My surgery was done as a minimally invasive procedure, and my recovery proceeded as he told me it would. There was a minimum of discomfort after the surgery and he made sure I was provided with a suitable pain-management prescription. I was surprised at how quickly I recovered. My follow-up visit to his office was equally satisfying. The waiting time at his office was minimal. We reviewed the surgery, follow-up care was discussed and he was again helpful in answering any questions I had. I would not hesitate to see him for any future care. I recommend his services to others needing general surgery.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr.Kolachalam and his staff. He was warm and caring, he took the time to explain my condition thoroughly. I was able to prepare easily for my first visit to his office using his just his website. His new re-vamped website was extremely helpful to me before and after my procedure. Thank you!
