Dr. Ran Schwarzkopf, MD

Five years ago I had a knee replacement by this surgeon. He botched the surgery and as a result I suffer chronic pain from the nerve damage that was done. He never wanted to follow up or check in with me. I probably wasn’t even a good candidate for the surgery but he told me I was. I think he just wanted the Money.

Many years I could not decide to do this surgery and my friend recommended dr. Ran Schwarzkopf. Friendly atmosphere and professionalism made my doctor’s visit so calm and lightened my mood. After this appointment I decided to definitely proceed with the surgery. Surgery went well, personnel was very caring and after surgery there was no infection. It is about 2 weeks after surgery and I can walk and thinking about doing my second knee.

Having traversed the corridors and operating rooms of the NYC orthopedic community for two decades, I feel confident of my understanding of the field overall. Regarding surgeons, I have seen the very best and some versions of the worst. I have enjoyed and dreaded appointments, experiencing both compassion and disregard, anger and humor - and, of course, huge egos. To date, I have undergone: two hip replacements; two knee replacements; one knee revision; and one laminectomy. Needless to say, I have had countless x-rays, special studies with contrast, at least a dozen cortisone injections, several aspirations and one transfusion. I have been operated on by big names, rising stars and department heads at the two best orthopedic hospitals in NYC. I share this background solely for the purpose of placing my very high regard for Ran Schwarzkopf, M.D. into a verifiable context. He is a consummate professional, not near the apex his career, and yet vastly experienced in specific orthopedic… conditions and diseases of knees and hips. When you meet with Dr. Schwarzkopf, he is on time - the same with online responses, which are seemingly immediate. He shows no sign of ego, rather he brings a bias to action relative to the concerns of the patient, but without any ‘sales’ effort whatsoever. Full disclosure, I have not had surgery with Dr. Schwarzkopf, but he is aware of my history and has, without exception, made himself available as I work through the aches and pains of an aging body and some joint replacements reaching retirement age! No one wants a to have a body part replaced, a procedure that is both an imperative, while also elective. It is the rare physician who can navigate this complex terrain with such impeccability as Dr. Schwarzkopf. Clearly, I very much wish I had met him at the beginning of my orthopedic journey - for he is the real deal – five stars!

My father was scared to do a total knee replacement. It took my family years to convince him to get one done. When I found that Dr. Schwarzkopf could make him feel at ease and laugh with him at his jokes I knew we found the doctor for him. He got straight to the point and didn't waste any time getting him ready for his total knee replacement. He made my father feel very comfortable before, during and after his procedure. He did an amazing job and my dad's knee is doing great. Dr. Schwarzkopf and his team are awesome and I would highly recommend them.

Went in for a consultation for hip surgery. He did not seem to want to go into detail about how he performs his replacements. Would only say its minimally invasive. He promotes the posterior approach over anterior due to infection risks and was very adamant about that. I only found that out because i asked. Gave me a card to call if i want to schedule surgery then made a rude comment loudly as i was leaving saying "Try not to limp too much...get the surgery". I wont be back.

I went to this doctor with knee pain related to a genetic condition. He couldn’t give me an answer and was somewhat dismissive. I had to keep prompting him as to what I should do, i.e physical therapy? Avoid certain movements? And he (literally) didn’t give me an answer or course of action. Find another provider. There’re plenty of great doctors in the city.

Horribe. Doesn't care. Doesan't even pretend to care. Arrogant. Indifferent. Callous to patient's pain. I went to him withj a bad knee. I came away without any knowledge of what caused it. I called to follow up as I was in excruciating pain. Dr. Schwarzkopf was far too important to deal with my pain, so I got a callback from the PA. I sent him an email asking for my x-rays. I got a brush off. A terrible experience.
