Dr. Randall Ray Odem, MD

I do not typically write reviews because I have better things to do with my time and this will take a while to review but I feel an obligation to save another couple's time and money who are struggling with fertility issues. If I could give zero stars I would. Dr. Odem was recommended by my OBGYN so I thought he would be as good as any other fertility specialist. Prior to scheduling an appointment I read mixed reviews about him but since he came recommended by a doctor I know and trust, my husband and I decided to make an appointment. We met with Dr. Odem for about an hour and he seemed kind and knowledgeable. Said from what he could tell he didn't think we wouldn't be able to conceive on our own but if we wanted to speed up the process he gave us the options (clomid and IUI). That first consultation was the one and only time we saw or spoke to Dr. Odem. I believe a doctor is only as good as the staff who works for them and his staff is all we interacted with since that consultation.… Looking back I should have trusted the negative reviews because they were accurate in the experiences we had with his office. The fertility journey comes with alot of emotions and can be stressful and aggravating, his office/staff makes it so much worse. I will list the horrible experiences we had with basically every department of his office/staff. -Even before meeting with him it was a headache. I filled out all of the required paperwork their office needed, made sure our primary doctors sent my/my husbands medical records, semen analyisis, etc. I sent it as I was instructed to, prior to our appointment which was well in advance to the appointment. They have two locations and the day of my appointment we were at his secondary location. When I checked in they said they didn't have ANY of my records or paperwork I filled out and emailed. Luckily, I had brought the hard copies I filled out of their paper work, some of my medical records, and my husbands semen analysis. That was just the first of many annoyances with his office/staff. If a Doctor is going to have two locations, great but have a system in place so records are accessible both places. - My husband and I are both self employed so we pay for our health insurance out of pocket and it does not cover fertility. Their office has a policy that if you do not have health insurance they can offer special pricing but if you do have health insurance (even if your provider does not cover fertility) they do not offer special pricing. How does that make any sense? We are still paying out of pocket as someone without health insurance would be. It felt like be penalized for actually having insurance which is something people are supposed to have. Ridiculous policy and should have known then to cancel appointment but we were desperate to have a baby so we looked past this. - They use online medical records to post procedure/blood test results. Which is nice but when you read it online and they don't call you to tell you whether the results are normal it made my mind race thinking there was something wrong with me. I had to call them to see what was going on and accurately explain my results. - Their billing department is extremely disorganized. I had a few issues with them but will give just one example, when you pay for an IUI it's due the day of appointment which we paid for. Then a week or so later I received a bill in the mail for $75 for IUI (that is what the invoice stated it was for). Naturally, I was confused because we paid for it the day of and I had the receipt. I called the billing department after a few voicemails and call backs, they said they had forgotten to bill me for a prior blood test and their system saw the payment for the IUI as a credit and took $75 from it to cover my blood test. Again, annoying and a waste of my time figuring out what was going on with the billing department. - Their front desk staff is in my opinion is unprofessional. When we checked in the lady was unnecessarily loud saying "you here for your IUI." I understand everyone in the office is there for fertility related issues but I felt like she was announcing to the world what we were there for and that made me uncomfortable. - We tried IUI twice. The first time we had it done a nurse did the procedure, my husbands sperm count was what it needed to be and she was nice enough. She said I needed to get a progesterone level blood test in one week from procedure to ensure I ovulated (which according to the blood test, I did) however, I did not get pregnant. So we tried again the next month. It was on a Saturday and the office was packed with other couples (most of which we had seen the month before, so if they were there for IUI's, the last time didn't work for them either). We waited for over an hour after my husband gave his sperm collection to be washed and prepared for the IUI. When we finally got to the room I was frustrated we had to wait so long because the first time it didn't take as long and we were told the procedure should be done within an hour of the sperm collection and it was well over that time frame. This time a doctor (not doctor Odem) did the IUI and she informed us my husbands sperm count was low but we could still do the procedure. It was upsetting to hear it was low because that was the first we'd heard of him having a low sperm count (after a normal semen analysis and the first IUI). The doctor didn't have the best bedside manner in regards to the low sperm count even with our obvious reaction of being upset and worried. She didn't tell me I needed another progesterone test and no one ever followed up with us after the procedure and I did not get pregnant. After all of those issues within a 2 months span we decided to never go there again. It felt like we wasted over $1,000 especially after talking to other people who went elsewhere for IUI

After dealing with multiple in vitro doctors. He is far by the worse one we have dealt with. The experience was more like a cattle herding. He does not have any compassion and it is very obvious it is all about the money with him. He should retire, because you can tell he does not care about the patients.

I absolutely do not recommend this dr! My first appointme t he was an hour late. Second appt after the vaginal ultrasoud he was completly distracted. Odem and his staff are incompetent. There have been errors over the last mths of my patients/dr relationship that are completly unacceptable. I feel i now have completly wasted my time, money and energy. Treatment has not even begun on the 4th visit. My surgery today his staff sceduled me for at 730 am was rescheduled for 11pm . They knew about this for a mth and did NOT notify me expecting me to sit in the wiating room in the hospital for 5 hrs. Im tired of being apoligized to. If you are looking for good medical care i highly recommend you look elsewhere

Dr. Odem refuses to let me give up my infertility treatment. I truly have faith in him. I feel so much better having him and his staff caring for me.

Even though I moved and now have to drive 2.5 hours to his office, I chose my insurance based on Dr. Odem being a covered provider. No doctor has ever spent as much time talking, just talking to me. He is compassionate, comforting, and brilliant. I would recommend him to anyone.

I was a patient of Dr. Odems over 12 years ago. After receiving a recommendation for a complete hysterectomy, I went to Dr Odem for a second opinion. This man is a wonderful doctor and human being. Just minutes into our visit I remembered why I hated to give him up as my OB/GYN. He is personable and friendly. He spent time going over every ultrasound picture explaining what they were showing or not showing. He always takes what ever time is needed with you and never makes you feel like he is in a hurry to leave. I left totally understanding his recommendation for treatment. At 6:00 that evening I received a call from him. He needed to verify something in my chart. This is not unusual for him. When I was a patient before I received several after hours calls directly from him.

The receptationist seems rude.
