My experience with Maryland Spine Specialists was abasolutelty amazing. I can't thank them enough, from the entire staff in the front, Madison the PA, and Dr Haroun. They were patient, empathetic, knowledgable, and incredibly professional. I blew out a disc, was in sever pain, and was handicapped. I am 2 months post op and feel almost 100%. Thank you!

Dr. Haroun is an outstanding surgeon! He performed a cervical fusion on me earlier this year, and I experienced very little pain afterwards, have regained arm strength, and flexibility in my neck. He is very thorough and does not rush to the conclusion that surgery is required. Dr. Haroun prescribed several tests and visits with physicians in related fields, before determining what was necessary. He was especially cautious since I had a prior cervical fusion years ago, which impeded the area where my surgery was needed. Madison Hawkes, P.A. is equally talented, as she was involved in my pre-and post-surgery care, as well as assisting during surgery. Dr. Haroun explained the surgery in detail and they both answered my questions. I’m still amazed at how a major surgery could cause little pain and a fairly quick recovery.

I was referred to Dr. Haroun a long time ago when I couldn’t get any pain relief for my back from other Doctors who specialize in Spine/Spinal surgery. When I first started to have back pain, under other spine specialist’s care, I tried steroid shots, physical therapy and that did not work well or last long. I was finally referred to Dr Haroun for further management. Even though I was already frustrated and started to feel like I would just have to live with the pain, I decided to contact Dr Haroun. THE BEST DECISION I have ever made- I have now referred him to my family (who see him for their back issues- driving from the Eastern shore and Rockville) and co workers, who also live from other places around the area. Not only does he have GREAT bedside manner, he explained things so I understood what was going on with my back and also gave me options with explanations that included me in his plan of care for my treatment. If I had a fear, he validated it and didn’t brush it off like some… do. He even told me he would try to save the tattoo on my back :). I don’t think most spine surgeons would even think about something like that (which I thought he did a great job doing!) After the surgery, he personally called me himself (I was still post op and asleep) but then called my husband to check up on me, which meant a lot. Fast forward post op, I feel like a totally new me. I am able to bend down and get up without holding my back. I am able to start running around with my kids and running for myself without feeling like my back will break. I ran a half marathon and had no issues with my back. Before, I couldn’t even bend down or walk long periods of time without holding my back after a while and then icing it. He did an amazing job with the surgery and I can barely see the scar. This is such a long review because I can’t say enough about this practice. Everyone in this practice is great- the PAs are excellent, the front desk staff are kind and extremely helpful. I will continue to go to Dr. Haroun for any issues I have for my back and will continue to refer him to everyone because I think everyone really deserves to feel some relief from any spinal/back pain and/or injury, which is why this practice is the one I adamantly recommend through and through. In addition, the PAs (Madison and Julian), are also excellent (I’ve repeated this, I know). If there was ever a time Dr Haroun couldn’t see me that particular day, I was just as content seeing the PAs because the entire practice seems to work as a team. Thanks Dr. Haroun & Team!

I was impressed from the first appointment that was right on time. It was made clear to me what my options were and what i could expect. The surgery and recovery went exactly as predicted. 4 days after surgery I was able to walk, and go up and down stairs without any pain, The only minor discomfort was the itching at the incision as it healed. The surgery was to relieve pressure on the lumbar area nerve that was causing intense pain to my right leg that prevented me from walking or standing for more than a few minutes at a time. as stated above i no longer suffer from that condition. I also want to compliment the office staff for their cheerfulness and willingness to help me with scheduling and with providing me with answers to my questions. Bottom line is Dr. Haroun and his staff made the entire process easy and pleasant.

The very first doctor I saw for my back injury 15 months ago indicated surgery may be necessary at some point. I remember laughing out loud and thinking no way that is ever going to happen. Well all these months later after trying all the recommendations including steroids, physical therapy, multiple injections manual physical therapy, yoga, chiropractic care, you name it, I was lucky enough to be referred to Dr. Haroun. Surgically you will not find anyone more skilled. Then add his wonderful personality and availability to his patients and you will not find a better combination. If you work with Dr. Haroun and Megan there is no reason to be afraid of back surgery. Get your life back, I am so happy that I did.

The thought of a fusion at C5 & C6 scared the heck out of me. It was something that had to be done and Dr Haroun and Megan, PA, are by far the best choice in a surgeon that I could of made. They were the 4th surgeon that I consulted with, they listened to me and thoroughly reviewed my history in great detail, from there we developed a plan. Today I have NO pain and the surgery was exactly what was discussed with Dr Haroun and Megan, HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR HAROUN AND MEGAN AND THE SURGERY!!!!

After injections,PT, medications to relieve pain, I've spoken to the PA, and Dr. Haroun about surgical intervention. Anticipate surgery the end of the month, after PMD, and Cardiologist do pre op assesments. I would like to report after my surgery. At this time I am very reassured improvement will occur. I'm following the instructions til then.

I had a bulging disk hitting the sciatic nerve, L5-S1. The pain was debilitating. Had to make several trips to ER for severe pain shooting down my leg. I couldn't even walk. Finally went to see Dr. Haroun for consultation. He is very nice, easy to talk to, and down to earth. Like talking to a friend. We went over options and tried some alternative options for treatment. He never pushed surgery as a first option. After trying other treatments that didn't alleviate the pain, I opted for surgery. I had the out patient surgery at Maryland Specialty Surgery Center, which is immaculately clean with the latest equipment, and top notch staff. Better than a hospital. Dr. Haroun is a very experienced, smart, most skillful, experienced neurosurgeon. You will find no better. He has done thousands of surgeries. As I walked out of the Surgery center, I could tell that the pain was gone. Five days after surgery, the surgery pain was gone. A week later there is absolutely no pain from… surgery or the debilitating sciatic pain. Dr. Haroun is a miracle worker. Just like that, no pain.
