The doctor herself is not great -- doesn't really engage or take time, seems put out to have to do any meaningful exams and much more interested in ordering testing and writing referrals -- but trying to deal with the office staff is a complete nightmare.
After my initial appointment, once I completed all of the testing the doctor ordered and had verified that results had been received, I heard nothing from the office for weeks. I started calling the office to arrange for some kind of follow up. I called five times over a two-week period, leaving messages each time, and no one ever called me back. I also tried sending a message through the web portal, with the same (non) result. I decided to call one more time before contacting my insurance company and asking for a new referral to a different doctor. When someone answered the phone, I was so surprised I could barely even form words to explain why I was calling. After several minutes of going over (repeatedly) who I was and why I… was calling (because, apparently, they can't be bothered to look at patient records themselves?), I was finally offered an appointment almost three weeks in the future. I arranged to take the time off work to go.
The morning of the day I was scheduled to go in, just a few hours before my appointment, someone from the office called wanting to reschedule for an earlier time. I explained that I was at work and didn't have much flexibility, but finally agreed to bump up the appointment by about 30 minutes. I rushed over there and signed in 10 minutes before the (new) appointment time.
No one greeted me or acknowledged me in any way. I sat down and waiting until almost 10 minutes past the bumped up appointment time before approaching the desk a second time to ask when I would be seen. The receptionist acted like she had no idea I was there, then told me to sit down and someone would be with me shortly. Several minutes later, I was finally called up to the desk and handed paperwork to fill out. Given that I had been in the office two months previously and filled out everything requested at that point, I asked why I needed to fill out more forms, and the receptionist couldn't/wouldn't answer, seeming irritated that I was asking questions. Finally, I just did it and handed it in. A few minutes later, the nurse called me back. After taking my vitals, she deposited me into the exam room, where the doctor finally came in to see me -- about five minutes before my originally scheduled appointment time.
The doctor basically read me my test results from her laptop and seemed ready to wash her hands of me, despite the fact that I am still having the symptoms for which I was referred to her in the first place. She also mentioned a couple of things about my blood work that are not related to the problem for which I was referred and asked if I was aware of any issues. I reminded her that I am already being treated for those things. Does she not even read patient records?
Five minutes later, I walked out with a referral for more testing. Today, I sat down with the referral to make an appointment . . . and discovered that the referral paperwork has no phone number. Google can't find any facility by that name at that address or, in fact, anywhere in Orlando. I tried calling the imaging facility that is at the provided address, but they say they are not and never have been known by the name of the referral and that there is no such facility in that building.
I held my breath and called Dr. Gandhi's office, assuming I would not get through to anyone there for help. The first time I called, I selected the option for information about testing and got disconnected after a few rings. The second time, I spoke to a perfectly pleasant young woman who seemed completely at a loss as to why I had been referred to a non-existent facility, where I should have been referred or what to do next. She finally promised to "send through a request" for a new referral, but couldn't tell me when I could expect to hear back from them. Finally, she asked me to give her until the end of the day to figure it out. I confirmed that, if I don't hear from them by the end of the day, I should call back tomorrow? She said yes, but didn't sound terribly convinced.
I have literally never had this kind of frustration with any other medical facility. I feel trapped because I have already invested as much time, energy and out-of-pocket money in testing as I have to this point. I hate the idea of having to start over with a different doctor, but that's my next step if I don't get some kind of meaningful answer tomorrow.
Seriously, save yourself the frustration. Just choose a different doctor from the beginning.
