Dr. Ricardo Julio Bello Boccardo

Spends time, Listens, Cares From our first appointment I felt that Dr. Bello listened to my concerns and fears. He spent time going over my scans and explaining the upcoming procedure. I felt that he was very honest. He didn't sugarcoat any risks. Dr. Bello researched my particular circumstances and planned the surgery based on the pathology. He did the minimum necessary to find out what we needed to know. (Note I said 'we'. It felt very much like a team effort) Before my surgery he had me walking and I'm sure that helped my recovery. I had some fears and questions and asked for a video chat which he was happy to do. Post surgery he listened to my recovery story and respected my personal decisions. I felt truly blessed to have Dr. Bello as my surgeon.

Dr. Bello was one of my surgeons during a major emergency abdominal surgery. In the most traumatic and painful moments of my life, Dr Bello had provided a glimmer of hope and security. I truly thought I was going to die, and having Dr Bello be so informative and personable, as soon as he walked in and started talking, I knew I was going to make it out okay. I truly feel as if he saved my life along with Dr Gulati, and Dr Benjamin (many others were involved and amazing as well). The bedside manner played a huge roll in my experience. Umass is an amazing hospital with amazing surgeons to prove it. I am healing and have a beautiful incision that they completed. I would recommend him and the Umass general surgery team to anybody I know.
