Dr. Richard Louis Agag, MD

Dr. Richard Agag is one of only a handful of plastic surgeons in the region to perform free tissue transfers, also known as "free flaps". These procedures involve taking skin, fat, muscle, nerves and/or bone—along with its blood supply—and transferring the tissue from one part of the body and reattaching it to a distant site.

Dr. Agag performs this "microsurgery" for post-traumatic defects as well as for reconstruction after cancer surgery of the breast, head and neck, and extremities. In addition to free tissue transfer procedures, which involve taking tissue from a part of the body far away from the site that needs repair, Dr. Agag performs more traditional tissue transfers using tissue from nearby the repair site. He also specializes in the correction of cleft lip and cleft palate in children, and cosmetic procedures including breast augmentation, tummy tucks, facelifts, eye surgery, as well as fat grafting.

In 2010, Dr. Agag was named the Jerome P. Webster Fellow by ReSurge …International (formerly Interplast). This fellowship, granted to just one newly trained, board-eligible plastic surgeon annually, gave Dr. Agag the opportunity to spend a year providing reconstructive surgical care to children and adults with deformities and injuries in developing countries around the world. Dr Agag worked in Africa, Asia, and South America where he performed over 250 surgeries reconstructive surgeries including cleft lips and palate repairs, hand surgery, and burn reconstruction. During this year he also had the opportunity to spend time working with world renowned plastic surgeons in Europe and the United States.
