Dr. Richard Blake Chitsey, MD

I have been his patient for almost 10 years. At first I was very critical of his bedside manner, but now I am in awe of his expertise and his referrals. After my brain tumor, I realized I was not in need of a medical “friend” but rather a medical expert. I have come to appreciate his directness and professionalism.

I was a patient of Dr. Chitsey for many years, and I can say with certainty that he never respected my time. Now that I’m 60 years old, I can confidently declare that he was consistently 1-2 hours late for my scheduled appointments. Every time I arrived, he would ask, “What are you here for?” A competent physician would review previous notes and understand the patient's needs without asking such an elementary question. It was frustrating to realize that, for Dr. Chitsey, I was merely a number, not a valued patient. It's clear he has forgotten the true purpose of being in the medical field. The final straw came during the onset of COVID-19. While checking out for my next appointment, I noticed that, while two of the four administrative staff were wearing masks, two were not. I took my mask off since I was leaving. When the girl assisting me insisted that I had to wear a mask, I pointed out the inconsistency and hypocrisy of the situation. I called them out for their misleading… claims about vaccinations, especially since those had not been widely distributed at that time. This led to an escalating confrontation, where I stood my ground, despite them threatening to call security. In the end, Dr. Chitsey chose to side with his staff without hearing my perspective and decided to terminate my patient status. Good riddance! I would never return to Dr. Chitsey, even if he were the only physician in Harrison. He is selfish and self-centered, and his practice revolves around what you can do for him, rather than genuine patient care.

He is self centered, does not listen to patient’s, condescending, “ doctor” I have ever met or seen. He did not look at me, NO EXAM - did not touch me in anyway. Having him for a primary care was a BIG mistake... AVOID him!!!

Cares more about money than your health care

Dr. Chitsey has been my PCP since 2018 and I have found him to be very professional, yet personable, knowledgeable and explanatory in laymens terms when it comes to conversing about symptoms, possible causes and remedies. With these attributes, he provides a certain level of comfort.

Most of time not helpful at all

I saw him only because he shared an office with my dr and mine was out of town. I came in with severe sciatica...lots of pain, unable to walk without help from my husband. He didn't even look at me. Asked me one question then looked over past notes from when the psin started. He scheduled me for testing, but treated us like druggies when we asked for pain killers. I'll never be back

Dr. Chitsey does care about his patients, he says what needs saying & does what needs done. I've read some reviews here he does not have a God complex, he is human. He doesn't treat everyone the same, like a robot he treats each patient accordingly. I've known Dr. Chitsey for about 17yrs. & He is a very competent doctor, he knows what he's talking about & knows what he's doing.he takes the time needed for each patient & listens.

He is arrogant and has a terrible bedside manner. If you want to use a different hospital than he wants you to use, he won't even help you. My mom has many health issues. After going to her appointment with her, I found a another doctor.
