Dr. Richard Erich Mugge, MD

Suffering from broken nasal bone and septum problem after serious falls from seizures. Doctor recommended surgery and performed repair including a Septoplasty and turbinate reduction. Since the surgery I cannot breathe properly from my nose. Especially on my right side. I hyperventilate at times as I feel I am suffocating. Also my nasal passages are completely dry, swollen, and painful all of the time. I went in to see him 3 times to report these concerns and each time he brushed me off ,saying my nose was "wide open" and thee was nothing he could do for me and that I should go see a plastic surgeon. I spoke with a friend of mine in Los Angeles who is an ENT and he mentioned it sounded like ENS "Empty Nose Syndrome" caused by overly aggressive turbinate resection or reduction. He recommended I try a "Cottle Test" and pull my nostril open to the side to see if I could breathe better, which I could. It made my breathing easier and my nose felt more open. Dr. Mugge did not treat me or my… concerns with care or compassion. He's a very rigid person with an uncaring bedside manner; border lining on being arrogant. I personally would not recommend anyone seeing him without thoroughly researching all available doctors and concerns. Dr. Mugge ruined my nose and I'm suffering all the time. He could care less. He even dismissed ENS "Empty Nose Syndrome" and there's countless evidence showing this syndrome in the medical literature. I'm now having my Primary Care Doctor find me a different ENT.

I had a near fatal accident which has caused problems with my hearing to this day. The phone is particularly bad. Called recently for something else and the first thing the receptionist said was you owe a copay from 10 years ago. Called back to find out what the appointment had been for and it was from the auto accident which required no copay. He told me my hearing was fine and I still have trouble. Don't know if something could have been done back then, but I just gave up and lived with it.

Dr. Mugge was very helpful and took the time to answer all my questions.

My son has been having reoccurrent strep infections. So I went to Dr. Mugge to see whether or not he would need his tonsils out. One of the first things that he did after introducing himself to me, was really took a few minutes to talk to my son and introduce himself to my son, and joke around a bit with him. Which is really awesome, especially for a 4 year old whose been poked and prodded so much recently. His bedside manner was impecable.
