Dr. Richard Charles Niemtzow, MD

Persistent dry-mouth is one of the bothersome and longer-term side-effects of radiation therapy for a head/neck cancer. I had tried acupuncture but improvement was not significant after a series of 8 1hr sessions lying on my back with needles inserted literally from head to toe. My wife did research and found Dr. Niemtzow, who claimed that the majority of his patients had significantly improved salivation. I was skeptical given previous experience, but Dr. Nietzmow's impressive credentials as an AF radiation oncologist, pioneering acupuncturist (see "Battle Field Acupuncture) and a head/neck cancer survivor convinced me to try. The brevity and efficiency of Dr. N's treatment is amazing: two 2-hr sessions performed in one weekend, needles only applied to jaw and ears, and the patient is seated the whole time. And results are near-real time: my wife couldn't believe the noticeable volume of saliva I was producing during the sessions! It's been two months since my… treatment. I still have dry mouth, but before I had to sip water constantly even using xylistol lozenges. This was esp. annoying during meals, as I'd fill up with water before I was finished eating. And of course, I was urinating very frequently. Now I can go up and down stairs and eat regular meals and forget to sip! Thank you, Dr. Nietzmow!
