Dr. Richard L Rapport II, MD

As other commenters have mentioned, this physician's response to ego injury is to yell very close to the face of patients and families. He enters appointments unprepared, doesn't listen to patients, is verbally abusive, lies to administration, and is a patent narcissist and danger to patients. He's in his 80s and can no longer perform surgeries for this reason but fancies himself above interacting with patients. I don't know how he's still working.

Egotistical and rude. He treated our son for TBI and gave us conflicting updates on a regular basis - we are fairly certain he did not know which of his patients was our son when he spoke with us even when we were in the same room. He told us regularly that our son was fully unresponsive and would not listen when we tried to tell him about what we had observed. “Parents are unable to be unbiased in their observations. Their observations are based too much in hope and wishful thinking.” Whereas his were greatly informed by the approximately five minutes he spent with him and the fact that my son was unable to give him a thumbs up when asked. When we refused a medication that he wanted to prescribe he stood on my husbands toes and yelled and spat in his face that “he is the doctor and we have no right to make this decision.” He might be a wonderful surgeon - I have no way to judge - but he knows nothing about rehabilitation. According to him my son would never walk again, is blind… in his right eye and we could look forward to an institutionalized life for him. My son is not blind, walks with a cane, lives with us, takes no medication and is still improving many years later.

Rappaport is one of those physician's who is so full of himself that there simply is no actual discussion. He will TELL you [blank]. There is no discussion about [blank]. When I tried to discuss or explain, he cut me off mid-sentence. Repeatedly. He's also careless in reading of charts before speaking to patient. Lastly, he raised his voice at me because he was so stressed out one morning, saying (nearly yelling), "Do you know how busy we are? It's chaos around here!". This guy can't even manage a busy morning at work - I would be extremely cautious about letting him treat you.

Not a helpful doctor. Terrible beside manner, was not OK with being wrong, and treated our family poorly.

Bedside manner was awful. Not impressed by him nor the lack of communication at Harborview.

Dr. Rapport was head of the team of Drs. who assesed my daughter and allowed me to be involved with their conversations. Dr. Rapport was the Dr. that notified me of any and all changes and what to expect. So kind and gentle. Thank you Dr. Rapport.
