Dr. Richard Salazar Montero, MD

If you care about your health, do not ever use this doctor. I am astounded he’s even allowed to practice medicine and should immediately have his license taken. My wife was referred to Dr. Salazar for a concerning list of symptoms — frequent headaches, dizziness, neck pain, numbness in her hands, and balance issues. These are all mild but recognizable signs of Chiari malformation, something any competent neurologist should be familiar with. (We weren’t aware because we aren’t doctors) Instead, Dr. Salazar misdiagnosed her with something far less serious, tension headaches and stress-related anxiety. He ordered an MRI, which we thought was a step in the right direction, but he claimed it came back normal. Over time, my wife’s symptoms got significantly worse. She started experiencing severe vertigo, difficulty swallowing, trouble with coordination, and even episodes where she couldn’t catch her breath properly. Despite this clear progression, Dr. Salazar continued to downplay… everything. Without using the actual word, he treated my wife like she was a hypochondriac. He was consistently dismissive, cut us off mid-sentence, and rushed through every appointment like he had somewhere more important to be, just leaned against the sink a good distance away from us. Each time we tried to explain how bad things were getting, we were met with the same response: “Everything looks normal.” Frustrated and desperate for answers, we went to a different neurologist at UAB in Birmingham. That same MRI — the exact same brain scan Dr. Salazar reviewed and called normal — was immediately identified by the new doctor as Chiari malformation. Dr. Salazar missed a serious diagnosis, invalidated and dismissed my wife, and left us questioning our reality for months. If you or someone you love is experiencing neurological symptoms even if it’s a simple headache, please save yourself the time, stress, and potential harm. Do not trust this doctor with your health.

Dr.Salazar was very rude. I was in the room for about 5 minutes. When I tried to tell him what was going on, he told me that he did not care because it wasn’t his specialty. He prescribed me some medicine and sent me on my way. If you want someone that will actually listen to your problems, find someone else.

Highly recommend Dr Salazar, he is very patient and takes time to explain things at great length.

My appointment was at 10:00, I got there at 9:30 to complete paperwork. I was taken back to a room pretty quick but that was where it changed. I was there until after 11:00 before I saw the DR. I had to tell him the same thing I told the nurse practitioner. He was in my room with me less that 5 minutes. I was in my car on the way home at 11:41. REALLY!! If you are going to turn people away that are running late (this was done) and change a $25.00 no show fee I think I need to bill you a late fee for being late to my appointment! I have NEVER been to the Dr anywhere and waited that long!!

At 80 years and having seen too many doctors, Dr. Salazar was the first to identify my major problem and prescribe appropriate treatment. He spent much more time with me than his predecessors. We greatly appreciate the positive references that led me to him. Thornton Clark

Dr. Salazar was the best doctor in this town he was making such progress with me. I was on less pills and feeling better. Since he left Colorado things have went back down hill. I now have to leave town and go at least 50 miles away to see another GOOD neurologist.

I absolutely love this Doctor. He is very efficient, kind and willing to listen and make changes as you need them. He has me on the right track. I have felt great since I have been going to him. He has my utmost respect.

Dr Salazar is very courteous and thorough. He spent a great deal of time explaining my diagnosis as well the therapy options. He even showed me my MRI to better understand my diagnosis and the medical jargon of the MRI report. I've met many neurologists who would prescribe medicatios without telling me what they were for. Needless to say that they never made the right diagnosis. Dr Salazar reviewed my entire medical history and treated me accordingly. I finally feel that I am on the right track.
