Very knowledgeable of my difficult & rare condition.

I spent years in pain, misdiagnosed, under treated, lack of continuity in care, etc....any complicated patient's nightmare. Dr Stappenbach read my sheets of medical information, examined me and got me to a course of functionality I hadn't had in years . In relieving pain it showed underlying problems explaining the inability to get a grip on any problem. He coordinated getting the care needed. He is always researching non prescription, herbal medicine to use if helps. He is very knowledgeable and thorough. Wish more Drs were like him. As for the pill mill he doesn't prescribe anything that isn't absolutely necessary. Only people that I know having problems are computer Drs that think their computer knows more.

I have been going to Dr. Stappenbeck for fifteen years. I first began because he was the only doctor I could find to treat a defect I have and no other doctors I contacted had the knowledge or experience needed. Over the years he has been there for me and successfully treated several difficult illnesses. I am now facing another and he is with me all the way and has directly told me so. He has treated other patients with this condition and includes me in my care plan. He is incredibly knowledgeable and coordinates the other doctors on my team. His staff is always courteous and I do not have to lift a finger for certifications concerning treatments or tests. My life depends on quality/accurate care and Dr. Stappenbeck is the doctor I feel so lucky to be blessed with!

I have been a patient of Dr. Stappenbeck's for almost 15 years, and having epilepsy was one of the hardest disorders to live with and be treated for, but thanks to Dr. Stappenbeck trying many different medications for epilepsy finally gave me my life back. Other doctors would only try a handful of medications--ones that pharmaceutical reps push and give kicbacks to doctors who prescribe them, but not Dr. Stappenbeck. He worked diligently to change meds until he found the right ones for me, and I am happy to say I am almost seizure free. Besides epilepsy, I have Fibromyalgia, Crohn's Disease, Hashimoto's, had Cancer twice, and numerous injuries due to many years of seizures, and I am happy to know that I can pick up the phone and call the Doc and/or his friendly and couteous staff members who are always helpful and make sure that he receives any information I give them to relay back to the doctor. He calls me at home if need be since he also treats my husband for many chronic spinal… problems aa well as rheumatoid arthritis. If you have a problem with his prescribing medication, go see another doctor who will gladly give you only five minutes of his time, call you by the wrong name, and nothing to ease the pain for legitinate illnesses that require such medication, but that is NOT Dr. Stappenbeck. I only wish there were more caring and compassionate doctors out there who go the distance for their patients. Now, I am facing another life changing illness that has caused me much pain and confusion, and I will gladly find the answers to the many questions I have on my next visit to his office.

This Doctor has taken new patients in recently. I have told friends that he was highly skilled and the friend went to see him. The friend asked me why did you send me to a quack? Months later my fried realized that this is one of the sharpest doctors he had ever seen. This doctor has patients that are in horrible health. This doctor also would rather use natural herbs and low tech methods before using prescribed drugs. There was an article in the newspaper about this doctor practicing the old fashioned methods of medicine when possible. My wife has some serious problems and my family was saying why is the doctor doing this or that (the Dr. being Dr. Stappenbeck) and it dawned on me to tell them: Dr. Stappenbeck has to work with the patient and he has to work with the medical conditions that the patient has. He is one of the top neurologists in the country. As far as the pill mill comment, the state of GA and the DEA have arrested pill mill doctors, which should tell you he is not a… pill mill doctor. I have been a patient for 30+ years and have learned that Dr. Stappenbeck knows his stuff. The reason there are more neurologists is so people that don't want to see him can go to the other doctors. It might take a while to get in the office to see Dr. Stappenbeck, but I dont mind the wait because I know one thing: He is going to take all of the time that is needed to see the patient he is seeing while others are in the lobby. And at times I was in the office while others waited. Dr. Stappenbeck handles life and death situations every day and makes it look easy. I hope the patients that have a problem with his medicine see the other neurologists and after 30+ years can be around to write a review.

Unlike the last rating, yes Dr. Stappenbeck has been accepting new patients. He just accepted myself a few months ago. A downward spiral? Wow, Dr. Richard Stappenbeck has done wonders for both my family and myself. He has always showed care and consideration. My review is not bogus whatsoever, and he uses his degree well thank you very much. Anyone who is looking at this, go look at his background check. He has had over 30 years of experience. Choose your neurologist wisely, but choose Dr. Richard Stappenbeck first. Also, I was able to read another rating on this and to that person..Dr. Stappenbeck is a spiritual, wise man, so listen before you speak. To those future patients, see Dr. Richard Stappenbeck. He is the best!

Until seeing the undercover reports that showed how he used his degree to dispense meds. whether needed or not I did not realize what a downward spiral he had set me & my family on. Look before you leap, check him out with the AMA, the boards of inquiry, other patients. Some reviews are bogus as he hasn't even been accepting new patients for a few years now. Buyer beware
