Dr. Richard Meredith Westmark, MD

I saw this Dr. in 1997 for neck pain. He said that MRI didn’t appear to show much structural damage and didn’t recommend surgery.. I was glad, but after suffering for a year or so went back and he ordered a myelogram and it definitely showed damage. He walked in and said, well you need surgery. I looked at him and said”well you aren’t going to do it” . I ended up with a neurosurgeon in Houston at Methodist. Must say Dr. Westmark is arrogant and doesn’t care what is going on with his patients.

Dr Westmark was the 6th or 7th different surgeon I had gone to for my spine issues. He was however the first one that gave me any feeling of confidence in his ability to actually help me. I had been doing everything I could to avoid surgery and her was very helpful in looking for alternative measures for me to continue avoiding the surgery. Yes there were long wait times in his office, but if you want the best you need to be willing to wait! I had a cervical fusion and a 2 level lumbar fusion going on 3 years ago now (not at the same time - about 10 months apart) and I am still feeling great! I went from needing assistance putting on my socks and shoes to graduating from the fire academy and beginning training in Jiu Jitsu! Dr. Westmark is an amazing doctor. He is personable and actually has a good sense of humor. I would recommend anyone to go see him, and frequently do when I know someone experiencing any neck or back issues.

It’s been 2 weeks since my surgery, I haven’t taken any pain medication since I’ve been home. and it’s been great my all of my feelings have been normal in my legs and feet. I would highly recommend Dr. Westmark to anyone that has any spinal issue.

Saw my problem and fixed no more pain!!!!

Performed an L5-S1 disk fusion on my back in 2000 the day before Thanksgiving. I have had 0 problems with it since then, and work everyday now at 62 years old with no pain at all!!!! Awesome Dr. And awesome Man!!!!!!

The office staff is very rude, slow and unprofessional. Once I saw Dr. Westmark instead of him taking the time to listen to me and the back pain I was severely having, he kept making jokes, Lee’s remarks and made me feel incompetent and stupid. He ordered three tests for me to have done. The referral lady in the office didn’t contact me until a week and a half later to schedule the tests or tell me anything. I had to call and leave a message asking “Am I still a patient of Dr. Westmark because I haven’t received any communication since my initial visit. Since that time, she went on a week vacation, Inhad one test done and NO one has called to tell or give me a follow up on the findings. I have not heard or seen from Dr. Westmark since the first visit and I will be moving on to find a reliable Neurologist with a reliable Office staff! This is the WORST doctors experience I have ever had in my life.

My husband has unfortunately wasted months of his time with this horrible Doctor and his horrible staff. He has been in such pain over the last 6 months and missed work because this Dr insisted that he get shots in his back first, which did NOTHING for him and continued to put him off for months and went from saying all he needed was the shots to MAJOR back surgery. When my husband FINALLY got feed up with the rude & unprofessional behavior of this entire staff, he went to another doctor who couldn't believe what he wanted to do to my husband! Thank God we didn't use him.

Dr. Westmark was very arrogant and did not answer my questions. He spent his time telling that a surgeon was in prison for completing unnecessary operations on Chiari Malformation patients. He seemed annoyed that my husband accompanied me to my appointment. Instead of introducing himself to my husband, he asked me if he was my lover. I have never had such a horrible experience with a doctor. My advice: save yourself three hours of your day and go elsewhere. My one star rating was too generous, but it is the lowest rating that can be given.

I had been a chemical operator for about 30 yrs and had abused my back by lifting equipment and opening valve that were in weird positions. This created problems in my lower back that caused me to go on disability. I had the 3 injection into the lower back and surgery to correct a protruding disc. These procedures were not able to correct the pain I was having and the amount of pain medication I was having too take. I had heard of Dr. Westmark, so I got all my medical records and mailed to his office. When I was able to get in and see Dr. Westmark he took all the time in the world to explain all my options and that there could be a chance that even after surgery it might not help. He explained everything using X-rays and a display model he had. This surgery took place Oct. 15th right after hurricane Ike. When he meet with me later after the surgery he told me that instead of doing 1 lower back fusions he had to do 3. It took time for the rehabilitation but after that period I was back… to a normal life. I have worked for some major oil companies in the construction of refineries and out in the Gulf of Mexico commissioning platform. This has ment doing a lot of walking, climbing and carrying equipment with no effect at all with my back. I very strongly recommend Dr. Westmark for his professionalism in the office and his fantastic surgical skills. Thanks Dr. Westmark for allowing me to get back and live a normal life.

first appt with dr. westmark.. never saw him again. always with P.A. after all tests never given reason for the pain. took your records and test results went to another doctor and start receiving treatments first appt.
