Dr. Rick William Bassett, MD

I did my homework... Bassett is one of the preeminent knee surgeons in the WORLD and is known to accomplish the impossible... like my neighbor with crippling Polio ... the guy actually designs special parts for really difficult cases. I wouldn't be surprised if he knows a way around your allergy issues. It may involve sending your info to him for review and coming here for evaluation and allergy tests. When I was 19, I was in a horrific car wreck. One of the several issues was a crushed knee and almost had to amputate it. Had it in a cast from toes to hip for a year. Long long before knee replacements. When the cast came off, the left leg was shorter but I still worked my whole 40 year career that way cuz, search as I may, after looking at the x-rays, no one ever wanted to touch it. Except Bassett. He made both legs even ( no more hip & back aches) AND a total knee replacement. Surgery started at 5AM, I woke up around noon and was using a walker, for a test drive down the hall by… dinner. This guy is the real deal + he is faithful and grateful.

As a primary care physician that had worked in the Rio Grande River for nearly 30 years before my retirement to Canada 10 years ago, I knew who I wanted to replace both my hips. So I travelled back to Harlingen for the procedures. Although I recognized the special qualities that Dr Bassett demonstrated with our shared patients, being the recipient of his care was a deeply moving experience. He is very unique and connects with patients in a very meaningful manner. Now 3 months post surgery I am functioning at a level that makes me feel decades younger. Can't remember the last time that I could do walking lunges and deep squats effortlessly. I can best describe this as an unexpected rebirth and a miraculous gift from an amazing man.

Had my left hip replaced in Feb. I am 63. In 3 weeks could walk freely with a cane. Within 6 weeks was back in the gym doing upper body and back on my bike---just as normal. Now at 6 months I am back surfing again. He is the best----Do your therapy religiously and you will be better than before you had the surgery.

Dr. Basssett lives up to excpectations and above..My surgery was conducted on Jan. 6th. He called my wife in my room immediately after surgery to notify her of the outcome. I was kept in the hospital until Sunday. Experienced no pain afterwards even though I am still receiving home theraphy. Dr. Bassett is what a Dr, should be..Patient first. Thank you Dr, Bassett....

Best doctor I've ever known. Besides his knowledge and experience he is a very compassionate person with a lot of respect for human dignity.

Excellent doctor. Took his time with us on the initial visit and we were very confident in our decision to have him replace my hips. He did both of my hips, one month apart, and I am very happy so far. He and his staff were excellent. We are lucky to have him in the Valley.

Dr.Bassett performed bi-lateral knee replacements for me in 2009. He treated me and my husband with such kindness, respect and professionalism , I highly recommend Dr Bassett and his expertise is worth going the distance to have him as your surgeon. We were able to get a waiver with our TRICARE insurance to have Dr Bassett to be my orthopedic surgery, and perform the surgeries even though we live 3 hrs from Harlingen. Now I will need a hip replacement soon and we will travel again to have Dr Bassett as my doctor. My knees are as perfect as the day he did the surgeries but my hip joints have developed severe arthritis and I thank God, Dr Bassett is available for this surgery. I know joint replacements are a major decision but it is the difference between a wheelchair or being able to walk and Dr Bassett designed the replacement joints he uses. I look forward to a walking tour of Scotland by next summer, thanks to Dr Bassett.

Dr. Bassett, YOU are my angel! The two dates when I had surgery with you will not be forgotten because you fixed my knees and I am no longer in pain. You have such a kind heart and God is using you in helping so many people. I will be forever be grateful to God for allowing me to have traveled this journey and gotten to know you.
