Review for Dr. R. Daniel Peters, MD - UNC Health ENT I've visited this location before and never had issues, but my recent experience with Dr. Peters was extremely disappointing and concerning. I came with my brother to his appointment because I've dealt with nasal issues myself for over four years, and he wanted my help in asking questions and understanding his options. Dr. Peters recommended surgery without ordering any updated imaging -- no CT scan, no X-ray, just a visual inspection. Even more alarming, he admitted that the surgery would more than likely not work, and that a second rhinoplasty would probably be needed later. Despite that, the surgery he was suggesting didn't even address all of my brother's actual symptoms or concerns. We asked very reasonable questions like, "Why no imaging before surgery?" and "If this procedure will likely fail, why not just go directly to the rhinoplasty?" My father also voiced concerns and pointed out that the proposed correction wouldn't… even address my brother's most pressing issues. Instead of engaging in a helpful or informative conversation, Dr. Peters became visibly irritated -- as if we were wrong for simply wanting to understand what was being recommended. It felt like he expected us to just stay quiet and accept everything he said without question. That kind of arrogant, dismissive attitude has no place in medicine -- especially when dealing with something as serious as surgery. Eventually, Dr. Peters abruptly walked out of the room without explanation after asking if I was an "ENT". Later, he even called my brother directly and told him he could return "without the external factors," clearly referring to me -- just for being present and asking questions. No one should ever feel punished or disrespected for trying to understand a medical plan that impacts their health or the health of a loved one. A doctor who refuses imaging, openly admits a surgery will likely fail, and can't take two minutes to explain his logic should not be the one making those decisions.
