Dr. Robert Southard, MD

My uncle recently had a bowel resection and has been at st. Luke’s for three months. Dr. Southard has been one of the doctors over his care. First he had the surgery and then got e.coli from the hospital. They treated him with antibiotics and said they cleared it and wanted to release him to an ltac facility. But he never got moved bc of blood pressure issues. Then he gets e.coli again and they said he’ll be on antiobiotics for 4-6 weeks and his blood pressure was still yet to be controlled. They pushed him out anyways and onto a ltac where he was there for less than 24 hours. He comes back to st. Luke’s once again and under dr. Southard’s care. He then tells us he has a perforation and he’s super septic and probably not going to make it a couple more days. Then they decide to do a ct scan with contrast and they come back and say ooops. He actually doesn’t have a perforation but we’ll be putting a drain in to help with the infection. His peg tube came out of place.. there’s no… perforation of the bowel. Then two days later they did another scan and they said well actually there’s nothing to drain and his ct scan just looks abnormal. Never told us what was abnormal about it... just that it looked abnormal. And now he’s currently super septic again and they’re telling us he doesn’t have that long. It’s quite apparent dr. Southard and his team don’t know what’s going on and at this point they’re just almost playing with him. From the moment he came in here they kept wanting to write him off because he’s 80. But he’s been so strong even though his team of doctors have been wrong about everything thus far. Literally everything! He’s got to be the worst doctor I have ever come across. Bedside manner is aweful, knowledge of care and what’s going has been aweful. Steer clear of Baylor and st. Luke’s and pray your loved one is not under his care.

Excellent surgeon very professional and caring. Extrodinary bedside manners! I had no medical problem after my surgery and I am extremely greatful that I chose Dr. Robert Southard as my surgeon! Thank you Dr. Southard !
