Dr. Robert Mc Kinley White, MD

Dr. Robert White publishes peer-reviewed articles and letters-to-the-editor on the Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis (TSUS). His medical school textbook of medicine introduced the topic to him. His writings provide counter information that lack conformity with the portrait of the TSUS as racism, classism, government maleficence, and non-treatment. Dr. White’s latest publication is Driving Miss Evers’ Boys to the Historical Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis (Guest Editorial). J Natl Med Assoc. 2019; 111(4): 371-382. To his credit, Dr. White’s historical work has resulted in rediscovery of a historic site in Newark that was the first and only community hospital—Kenney Memorial Hospital then Community Hospital—in New Jersey for patrons of African descent (i.e., as physicians and surgeons, nurses, and patients) in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Dr. White’s findings, which were published in the 1997 J Natl Med Assoc, served to support, in part, designation of the site—now New… Salem Baptist Church—a NJ state and national historic place.
