Dr. Rocco James Lafaro, MD

It has been over five years since my cardio bypass surgery was performed by Dr LaFaro. Here I am in Lucca with my wife enjoying a wonderful month long holiday. At the age of 83 (84 in December), I am able to walk briskly around town, up three flights to our apartment and hurrying to catch trains for other locations----all with no chest pain or breathing difficulties. It seems fitting that I write this thank you to Dr LaFaro from Lucca, Italy where I would not have been able to travel five years ago. Grazie Mille Dottore LaFaro!

Although Dr. Lafaro was not our primary surgeon, he was covering for another physician when he came to see this patient. Simply said, his has a poor bedside manner!! Very rushed, spent approximately 60 seconds with an elderly patient and explained very little about upcoming surgery. I am a family member of this patient and was present during his brief/whirlwind visit. I was very dissatisfied with Dr. Lafaro. I am not asking for him to stay a long period of time but would suggest he work on taking a few minutes to thoroughly explain to patients and their family members about upcoming procedures. If Dr. Lafaro had only taken 1-2 more minutes of his time to kindly discuss situation, this patient would not have had to feel intimidated and confused about upcoming surgery. The bedside manner of doctors is crucial to patients who are unsure of their prognosis and often elevates unnecessary stress. They often wait prolonged hours, sometimes days, waiting for a doctor to enter their… hospital room. Again, Dr. Alfaro did not perform any procedures on this patient. He may be a very successful surgeon, however it is imperative for doctors, such as he, to realize that patients are hanging on to their every word especially in life or death situations. He needs to work on his sensitivity!
