Dr. Roland Vance Askins III, MD

Dr. Askins totally was negligent in my husbands knee replacement, and as a result, my husband had to endure two more surgeries (not with Askins). When confronted with his mistake, Dr. Askins was nasty and defensive. He literally put the knee in crooked. He told my husband that my husband was wrong and that he needed an ankle replacement to keep the knee straight. Incorrect. Confirmed by Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. Go to someone else. Not him. My husband had had his other leg's knee replacement with this "doctor" which resulted in two extra surgeries in one week. Why he went back to him for his other leg remains a mystery. Anyway, my husband died from cardiac amyloidosis, almost two years ago. I just felt I owed it to those others who need this surgery to definitely avoid this "doctor".

My husband has had both hips replaced by Dr. Askins and I have had 1 hip and one knee replacement done by him. Legs are all the same length, no limps or problems after surgery. We highly recommend him.

Dr. Askins did my meniscus surgery and I was walking around the house without an aid the day after surgery. Eight days after surgery I feel that I could get back into my usual athletic schedule, but Dr. Askins said that swimming and bicycling are OK, but to wait another two weeks for anything more vigorous. Surgery went very well and I would recommend him to anyone looking to have meniscus surgery.

My husband had total knee replacement both knees May 2017 ...did great infact star patient at Lakewood Ranch was sent to Hawthorne for recovery..there a unqualified person had my husband go up down stairs when he was clearly not ready to do so within 1 week of surgery .... had to go back in double knee surgery again in two weeks time. the problem we had after that...continuous issues with knees...TRIED to talk to Dr Askins about it but he refuses to accept that he might be wrong and that there is truly something wrong. It will be a year end of May. As of this date my husbands Right knee collapsed on him randomly causing near falling or actually falling down. His knee issues have totally changed his life. He cannot perform his job nor do thing around the yard or house as he once did due to the issues. He cannot walk around any lenght of time without pain and collasping. It is truly a shame when you have a Doctor that feels as if you complain you are laying total blame on… him and therefore he deems there is nothing wrong and any issue you have is that you either do too much or you do not enough. Dr Askins lacks in bedside manor...Dr Askins talks to you as if he is chewing you up and spitting you out. We were always a nervous wreck trying to talk to him after the surgery. Dr Askins would talk normal to us when it was unrelated issues or topics. We thought he did a great job the first surgery. My husband healing fine...but the 2nd surgery two weeks later a total failure. Maybe Dr. Askins...if you would have took the time to listen and accept that there was a problem that just may have been due to what happen ...maybe the knee part is damaged???? Who knows. All I know is that we paid a lot of money out to be is worst shape now than what what my husband was before the surgery. The reason for surgery was to correct the problem. The office manager was very ugly to us as well. I think she thought we were going to sue them. For me the survey questions are academic. During hip surgery my urethra was ruptured and I am now incontinent. Dr, Askins described the incident as "unfortunate". Who's in charge during surgery? Perhaps the Lakewood Ranch Medical center bears all the responsibility. then avoid it. The prosthesis is good after two years. It's a pity he can't use Doctors' Hospital.

Dr. Askins is the finest surgeon in the State of Florida! I have been through years of PT, 2 knee replacements, and a hip replacement and each time I walk in, he greets me as if no matterr how bad it is, he will fix things for me. He is highly intelligent and I trust him and his gut feeling about the surgeries I have had. He is my orthopaedic doctor for life (sorry Dr. Askins!), but I know whatever I need, he is there. THANK YOU DR. ASKINS FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE FOR ME AND MY PARENTS!!!

Dr. Askins replaced my knee in 2003 and hip in 2012. The knee surgery was done on Monday I was walking the halls w/o walker or cane Tues. afternoon. The Hip was just as easy. No pain after surgery in either case. I would highly recommend him. He moves fast during office visits but explains procedures and answers questions thoroughly.

I don't take chances with my health. I'm 69 years old and have had many surgeries. When I'm looking for a specialist, I think nothing of asking 20 or 30 people in health care who they consider to be the best. When I needed a new hip, Vance Askins was the hands-down choice of the majority. I'm three weeks out from a total hip replacement and I would say I'm 90% recovered. I walked two miles ten days after surgery. A home health care nurse with 30+ years of experience who took out my staples said she could just about guess who did my surgery by the small incision and the speed of my recovery. This guy's a wizard. If you're looking for a Marcus Welby- type who'll baby you and hold you hand this may not be your guy. He spent a lot of time with me before the surgery explaining every facet of the procedure. In fact, he gave me a different type of joint to match the requirements of my chosen activities.

I had knee replacement in 210 and have been in pain ever since.This Dr did not want to know me when we came back after surgery.I now have to have surgery again to try and get out of this awful pain. I would not suggest going near this office.
