Dr. Rosalind Leah Heiko, PhD

Dr. Heiko is very kind, compassionate, and caring. She is a great listener and when she is with you, her full attention is yours.

Dr Heiko saw my teenage son and was great in the manner in which she was able to help him overcome the issues that he was facing and guiding us with coping strategies.

My daughter was 3.5 years old when her dad chose to leave. I wanted her to have a safe person to talk to through this tough time and we were blessed when Dr. Roz was highly recommended to us. My daughter started seeing Dr. Roz around age 5. She is now 15 and a thriving high school freshman. Here is her own personal review: 'I have been going to Dr. Roz off and on since I was a small child. As a kid, with my parents going through a divorce, Dr. Roz was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. She gave me a safe place to talk about my life or when I was little to just play if I wanted to. She made me feel safe and validated and that my voice and opinion mattered. Which is really hard as a kid, especially while my two separate families continued to grow and change. I got very good solid advice from Dr. Roz and I feel like the way she treated me and the way she helped me understand why people treated me a certain way, has been instrumental in me growing up into who I am… today. Its hard to express how much Roz means to our family. She is understanding, compassionate, to the point and what we needed when our lives were upside down. I would highly recommend her to anyone that may need help in a situation that seems overwhelming. You don't have to try to fix everything by yourself or face things alone as I had to learn. I will forever be grateful for everything she has done for us, she truly is a remarkable woman.

I visited Dr. Heiko during an emotionally painful time for me. After having participated in marriage counseling with a separate therapist, I had chosen to terminate my marriage. I was angry and disappointed at giving up the hope and dreams I wanted but couldn't have. Dr. Roz helped me grieve this loss, cherish what I did have and travel through my pain at my own rate of speed to heal. I had a soft, loving place to fall, cry, argue, and then smile again. She will always have my deepest appreciation.

Divorce is never easy. Even when you and your spouse agree to do the right thing for your child, it doesn't matter. Children hurt in ways we cannot imagine. The insecurity, the confusion, the feelings of loyalty, wanting to be with both parents â?? these thoughts stay with children long past the announcement and physical separation. Adding stepparents to the mix (as adolescent ramps up) can add layers of distrust and uneasiness to even the most seemingly adjusted child. Thank God we had Dr Heiko. Dr Roz and sand play created a strong connection and outlet to our 10 year-old daughter. Through separation, divorce, remarriage, and custody â?? not to mention the ups and downs of being in upper elementary and middle school â?? Dr Roz was there for our daughter. She was a wonderful partner for me, the mom, too. Dr Roz responded to my every call, every question. She provided feedback, gave me appropriate "heads up," and helped us understand the struggles our daughter faced. In addition, Dr… Roz talked with our attorneys as we mediated custody. She worked as a partner with our youth minister and a separate family therapist. Without Dr Roz's insights, we may have missed important issues, things that wouldn't have occurred to the adults in the room. Dr Roz was a valuable partner and a trusted resource for all members of our family.

Dr. Heiko is a valued colleague with whom I have worked as a speech-language pathologist for over fifteen years. If Dr. Heiko suspects that a child has a communication or literacy problem, she refers for evaluation and then incorporates those results with her findings to provide a team assessment. This approach is highly desirable for the family, but is not commonly available. Dr. Heiko's evaluation reports are the most detailed and perceptive of any I have read in my forty-three years of experience which is testimony to how thorough she is and how much she cares about accurately capturing a child's strengths and needs. If the child requires treatment, often Dr. Heiko will work with the child and family regarding emotional issues and I will assist with the language issues. I have witnessed numerous clients respond to her insight, warmth, and skill with rapid progress which facilitates their ability to put renewed energy to learning with success.
