Roy Sanders, MD

Dr Sanders helped my son through a very difficult time. He did so in a calm and compassionate way. He helped us understand the situation we were dealing with and medicated him properly. I will always be grateful to Dr Sanders.

Dr. Sanders diagnosed me with GAD in 2001 when I was 13. He put me on a very strong regimen of medication which robbed me of my memory, my ability to feel happiness, my concentration, and which increased my apathy to dangerous levels. This was done without any evaluation or testing; Dr. Sanders just accepted my parents' word and irreversibly changed my whole personality with these powerful drugs. When I needed to be heard, he ignored me. When I needed reassurance he treated me coldly.

I was reading all the poor reviews and they are on similar lines. Patients/parents did not like what he told them. But as a clinician, he is spot on and brutally honest. In todays world of poor parenting, self obsessed parents and kids, sleep deprivation due to electronic devices, this is an astute physician with great clinical knowledge and experience. Would highly recommend him.

Very relaxed, calm manner. Does not speak to my teenager as if she is a little kid. Love him!

I believe Dr Sanders is one of the TOP doctors ever in Physiology it does not get any better!!! Very through doctor!!!

We never feel rushed and Dr. Sanders is easy to talk to.

He had this to say about my 6 yo - that she would end up in a treatment facility before she was 13. And that is a milder judgment that he uttered. I found him to be rude and condescending. He was not interested in what I had to say at all and is not the kind of doctor who will work with you.

I originally came to this site to see if anyone else had issues with Dr. Sanders, not to write a review. Since it startled me how well other experiences mirrored my own, I decided to write one too with some more detail: Great credentials, but I can't tell if Dr. Sanders actually cares. He gives terribly misplaced advice, I think as a result of not being able to identify with patients. He can't identify with patients because he does not even take the time to get to know them. However, that does not stop him from psychoanalysing you and passing judgment. It's so absurd that I have a hard time believing he was always like this, due to his credentials. But at the time of this review I can relate with the other reviewers who have said he does not seem to care, yet that doesn't stop him from judging you. Not sure about others but he said some very flippant, hurtful things to me then turned it around on me as if it was my problem. This is all without him even getting to know me or my… situation. He just figured his psychic prowess or the force or something told him all he needed to know. I have had whole sessions where he did not say ONE word to me, except "bye" when it was over. He just stared at his computer for an hour, probably using WebMD (more on that later). Additionally he would not even keep tabs on me, nor would he talk to my psychologist, despite this being usual practice. He just figures his experience with autism and schizophrenia is enough to get by, as he attempts to dissect my completely unrelated problems with this prior experience. I think this is the arrogance others referred to. He figures he has dealt with the worst so why bother listening to the patient? Then again, he could be very good at treating others with autism. I wouldn't know since I'm not autistic (might be something to think about, given your situation). I just thought it was weird that he bragged about treating autists when that had nothing to do with my problems. Then he decided to use that experience in his diagnosis. This would be that "tunnel vision" another review mentioned. For the record, I am not seeing him again by choice. I have never deemed a psychiatrist so unfit that I decided to leave. But when a "psychiatrist" is guessing as much about what medicine to prescribe as say, a family doctor (who has the excuse of no prior psychiatric knowledge), I think it is time to leave. Hopefully this review helped you.

I like that Dr. Sanders has a child with aspergers therefor, has some understanding of what parents experience. I do not like that I can not get my son's prescriptions refilled in a timely manner. Taking more than a week is unacceptable.

This doctor is beyond rude. He has a huge chip on his shoulder and is not caring. He thinks he know everything, which is dangerous because he really doesn't get to know his patients (quick to make a snap judgment without taking the time to understand), and he is unable to provide the best care for them because he has tunnel vision. I have never met a doctor who was so full of ego and so insensitive and so lacking in true wisdom. I can honestly say he can become quite nasty. He may be book smart -- but it does not make up for his lack of compassion and wisdom. He is the type of doctor who really is in danger of doing more harm than good. Seek help elsewhere, for your or your loved one's sake.
