I have a 21-year history of bacterial sinus infections. In January, I saw Samantha Sim, CNP, at MHG Urgent Care. I explained my symptoms and asked for a 5 day course of antibiotics since I have routinely been prescribed that medication at the beginning of a bacterial sinus infection. Despite this, she tested me for strep, RSV, COVID, and the flu—although I had been vaccinated for everything except strep—and declined to prescribe any medication for the infection, saying I had a virus. My primary care provider was out of the office, which is why I went to Urgent Care in the first place. When my primary care provider returned three days later, she prescribed a 10-day course of antibiotics because the infection had progressed into a full-blown bacterial sinus infection. Because of the delay in treatment, my recovery took longer, and I ultimately needed a second course of the stronger antibiotics since the infection had become so severe.
