Relative went into er via ambulance , moved to a room and still almost 36 hours later has not seen an MD

JCMC let my Dad suffer in severe pain as he was dying from lung cancer with mets to bone and brain. One of the most painful ways to die. Only when I got Dad on hospice was the hospitalist able to give him the pain medicine he needed to die in some level of “comfort” 8 hours later. JCMC is not going to make money giving pain medicine to a dying patient. Only when you get your loved one into hospice will their pain be managed. Hospital bureaucracy at it’s finest. It all comes down whether they can make money off of your current hospital stay and if they can count on you being a returning patient, to fill their pockets more. Also, do your research and trust your instincts. I heard so many different variations of palliative treatment options and different prognoses, which is what made the decision difficult as to when to put Dad on hospice. I want to thank Dr. Morris for being straight with me about Dad’s prognosis, his kindness, caring and helping my Dad pass peacefully. Thank… you to Kayla-Ballard Hospice for calling me to let me know of Dad’s severe decline overnight. Your call changed everything. I was able to fly right back, so my Dad didn’t die alone and in severe pain. Chaplain Tiffany, I thank you for your kind words to help me begin to process my feelings. Thank you to the nursing staff who provided good care to my Dad and offered me support. LaFountain I am not even sure how you got to hospitalist level. You have zero compassion and the inability to care for the whole patient. I am sure this isn’t your first rodeo, but you also don’t seem to understand that when a person is dying, none of the numbers matter. Not the kidney function, the liver function or the drop in blood pressure that is expected. My Dad is a Vietnam Veteran. With the help of Tetrick Funeral in JC and a VA burial with military honors, I feel proud that I could lay my Dad to rest with the respect and honor he deserved. RIP Daddy.
