When I was in the process of selecting a doctor, I did my research just as you are doing now. I was particularly swayed by these glowing online reviews of Dr. Margoles. Now, with my first hand experience of suffering permanent disfigurement as a result of my surgery performed by Dr. Margoles, I can absolutely say that these glowing reviews do not reflect all relevant patient experiences. If I had read about a story like mine, I would not have chosen Dr. Margoles, and I could have saved myself the physical pain and emotional anguish caused by this life-altering injury. I divide my life into two parts - before and after this devastating surgery. Before the surgery, I had high hopes for a wonderful outcome and was lulled into a feeling of security because Dr. Margoles portrayed the surgery as low risk. Given Dr. Margoles’ assurances, I was completely blindsided by what actually happened. This disastrous surgery resulted in permanent tissue loss from necrosis (death of my flesh). I… remember the excruciating pain and the horror of smelling and seeing my rotting flesh due to this necrosis. Just a week after my operation had gone terribly wrong, I wrote in my journal that I was getting ready for bed and accidentally knocked my tiny white fan off the dresser. It fell to the floor, and split into separate pieces, but the fan’s propeller miraculously kept on whirring. That was how I understood myself after the operation - alive but broken into pieces. A part of my body was black and decaying. I hadn’t been able to wash myself in over a week while I waited for the MediHoney to ease the dead tissue off. I smelled like decay. What I meant, but didn’t want to admit at the time, was that I smelled like death. I cried for hours during these first few weeks. I couldn’t even pause for breath. It felt like there was too much sadness to pour out of me to stop even for a second. I cried because I would never be the same and I suspected that I would spend a lifetime struggling against the view of myself as irreparably broken because of this life-altering disfigurement. I cried because I had never known the smell of rotting flesh before, and I knew that I would never forget it. While the emotional scars from this surgery are, of course, not immediately visible, they deeply affect me every day, especially in my quiet moments alone. But my physical scars are hard memories written down on skin of what this traumatic experience did to me. Dr. Margoles’ life goes on, but my life is suspended in time with this surgery as the dividing line.

Margoles is absolutely amazing at what she does! I recently had a full abdominoplasty/muscle repair (for distasis recti) procedure with her. I have 2 children who are now both adults so I figured it was time. Let me just say, for 28 years I dreamed of having the smooth, pooch and stretch mark free belly that I have now. I honestly feel like I'm 18 again! My belly button is perfect, even better than the original. I am extremely skeptical when it comes to plastic surgery.
