Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Hooks, MD

It's unfortunate that she is a Kaiser Doctor or even a doctor. She does not take her time with patients; to listen to, provide quality health care and hear about their health concerns. She fails to communicate with respect and is dismissive about the patient’s questions. Demonstrates a character of superiority. Poor responsiveness and does not provide a thorough examination in-person. She also fails to refer patients to specialists. This has caused concern of her level of competence or quality that hurts the patient.

I can't say I have had a good experience with this doctor and, honestly, I doubt I will. My previous doctor is no longer working at the Kaiser on Cadillac so I asked to be assigned a doctor (I did not care who since I had never had a bad experience with Kaiser so I did not care). Having said so, they assign me to Ms. Hooks. I emailed her asking to have blood tests done. I clearly stated that I have blood tests done pretty much every year and that I would love to have them done again this year. After going back and forth via email, she tells me that I had blood tests done last year and that I seem to be healthy. Well, I am very happy to seem healthy even though the blood glucose was at 99 (100-120 is considered pre-diabetic), and the basophils in my blood cell count have been off every single time I had tests done. Of course, she did not notice either (it must be because it is not in my record...:) that I had taken anti fungal pills for three months and the doctor who prescribed them… suggested having tests done to check the liver half way through the treatment to see if there was any problem... However, what she actually did was ask me to stop by her office anytime to discuss my concerns. Well, my concern is the fact that she refuses to order blood tests for me on the grounds that I "seem healthy" as of tests done a year and a half ago...

I'm visiting with my mom one year after she was fitted with a pacemaker/defibrillator after experiencing heart failure - twice - for a heart condition that she wasn't aware she had because although her symptoms were common warnings signs of someone wirh a potential heart issue and were documented regularly during office visits, not only was my loved never referred to a cardiologist, but whenever she expressed concern about her declining health and test results, she was Always reassured that her concerns were not warranted. Medical malpractice laws make it harder to pursue negligence (believe me, I tried via Kaiser's arbitration process and in consultations w/private attorneys), particularly when the patient survives. Had she died, I would've had a case, but she survived. However, the climatic event (heart failure) changed her forever. She's lost her independence, confidence and her lifestyle had been forever changed her and our family. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Hooks to change a… band-aid, much less, give her authority to govern the health of a loved one.

One of the better doctors I've been to. Not quick to give you medication and send you out the door like many others, but ready to investigate to see the true cause of the reason why you're at the doctors. Great at following up.
