Dr. Scott Eugene Elrod, MD

He is the worst doctor. If he thinks you should do something, then that is it. Especially when it comes to medication. He gets off on making the diagnosis. Disregards the side effects and is a very threatening person. He should be banned from the profession. If others feel this way then post your experience so others won't have to suffer.

I was an adolescent patient of Dr. Elrod several years ago, and had around 5 appointments with him over a span of 1-1.5 years. He seemed like a competent physician, if somewhat aloof. I stopped seeing Dr. Elrod over an issue I had with a prescription medication I was taking. The medication would become lodged in my esophagus and cause severe pain, to point where I eventually stopped taking it. When I told Dr. Elrod about the pain, he said it was “psychosomatic”.

A dentist in Lake Jackson put crowns on my lower front teeth. My natural teeth were too close together and crooked. Dr. Gotcher made the crowns too thick and not only were they too big but I could feel the edge of the crowns on my gumline, driving my tongue wild while it ran back and forth over the ridge! After a couple of visits to Dr Gotcher it was clear that he was not able to fix my teeth. Dr. Elrod took on the task of grinding those crowns down and putting new crowns with a procedure that made them tolerable. I live out of state now and I miss Distinctive Dental! You get what you pay for and Dr. Elrod is a professional in his dentistry.

I have been seeing Dr. Elrod for over 2 years now. He is exactly the kind of doctor I need. After 20 years of therapy off and on I don't need to rehash all the issues I have already worked on. We work on how I am feeling at the moment. That's it. Which may turn into some dialogue regarding my past. But he is interested in what's going on with me right now. Some have stated that he's a know it all. I disagree, he's extremely intelligent and that can be misinterpreted as arrogance. I am lucky that I found him!

I was a newly adimitted inpatient at Providence when I saw Dr. Elrod, dealing with severe depression and PTSD and feeling very vulnerable. He literally offered me an ultimatum. Either I needed deal with my weakness, as he called it, as an outpatient, or he'd commit me to the state hospital. Told me to think about that and he'd make his decision the next morning. That was the extent of his interaction with me. Based on why I was there, simply seeking help, his behavior made no sense. It was intimidating and frightening to say the least. I essentially had to apologize the next morning for seeking a voluntary admission to Providence. Based on that one-time experience with Dr. Elrod...I'd say his behavior was appalling.

I had a session with this man almost 20 years ago when I was in a time of need. Rather than really looking into what was really going on with me he just insisted that I take a medication without any explanation of possible negative side effects. I have suffered for the last 18-19 years from the negative effects of this drug and have worked with several other doctors to try and get off it. It is extremely difficult to quit taking once started. I've managed to cut down to 1/3 of the dosage he prescribed but thats it. The drug's side effects Have caused a major disruption in my life for many years. I wish I had never met this so called doctor. He's a fraud. Be wise and stay away. Even one star is too much.

Anyone who uses threats and intimidation as "therapeutic" tools should think twice about being in this line of work. This was exactly my experience with this doctor. Will never see him again and would advise others in a vulnerable state of mind to avoid him.

From my brief experience with him, he is not a doctor who instills trust at all. He was brusque, rigid, borderline contemptuous and didn't seem interested in offering assistance. Kind of a burnout.

She was right! He is no nonsense and kept me on track during my appointment. The doc is intelligent and curious. Perhaps not the most caring, but that is the role of my therapist.

The Best Doctor There is!!! Might know it all, but Knows a very lot!! Helped me when no one else could.
