Dr. Scott Wayne Howell, MD

Dr. Howell came highly recommended to me by a friend. He said Dr. Howell was a very caring and attentive doctor who really takes his time with each patient. I wouldn’t know because I barely got to meet him. When I arrived for my first appointment, I discovered that Dr. Howell had made changes to his practice whereby most of his patients are seen by a nurse practitioner instead of him. I did not care for the nurse practitioner, or this practice model. I did not feel that the nurse was qualified to be handling my medical conditions. When I go to the doctor, I expect to be treated by an actual doctor, not a nurse. I was upset that I was not informed of this arrangement when I called to schedule an appointment. Also, the wait time is terrible. I waited an entire hour just to get called back to the examining room. Once in the room, I waited another 30 minutes just to see the nurse. I then waited another hour to complete lab work. The waiting room is overly crowded. It serves… too many doctors and there isn’t enough seating. Parking is a problem too. You have to park way out yonder and hike the equivalent of several blocks to get into the clinic. This is a problem if you have orthopedic issues.

The wait time is horrible. And after that I spent maybe 10 minutes with the Nurse Practitioner; felt rushed and she didn't take the time to address MY issues, only the issues she had with my labs. I also felt that she was pushy.

Never makes his patients feel rushed, takes the time to explain and make sure his patient understands diagnosis and procedures. Listens to his patients.

This doctor's office has not responded to multiple phone calls from me and multiple faxes from the company that dispenses her meds to the Assisted Living Center where she lives. Their lack of response is costing my mother hundreds of dollars each month. They don't return calls and you can't get a live person on the phone - so what are you supposed to do?? Find another doctor....

Every time that I have been in the Thomas Spann Clinic I have been impressed. The lab is on site, and the office staff is courteous and responsive to all questions and requests for information. Dr. Scott Howell is exceptional; he is personable, generous with his time, and exceedingly competent. His nursing staff is equally caring and capable. It is without hesitation that I can recommend Dr. Thomas in particular and the Thomas Spann clinic in general.
